I worked at Movado Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Watch discounts
Some executives are very smart and they can teach you a lot

    Cons

People in Design and PDPM departments very unmotivated and unhappy
    Lots of politics
Talent doesn't matter as much as brown nosing. There are people who have become manager-VP in a matter of 3 years without having actual experience. What matter is "Who" you know in the club vs "What" you know.
VPs in the design and pdpm departments back stab each other and people underneath them
You are golden if you can spend hours and hours in a executive's office during after hours talking dirty politics and brown nosing

    Advice to Management

Nothing. They have been doing things the same way for generations .
The company is stalled with same people at the top for several years
Head winds are strong.. Survival is difficult with this culture and leadership

I worked at Movado Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small corporate structure enabling access you wouldnt normally have with larger retailers. Competetive pay structure

    Cons

Where to start...zero opportunity for advancement beyond Store Manager. Poor training structure with very outdated material. No room for learning from mistakes and no assistance available when it comes to unfamiliar issues. High pressure atmosphere. President of the outlet retail division micro manages everything and has zero people skills...elitist with the wrong background to be heading up a retail division of an organization.

    Advice to Management

Steal shamelessly from other successful retail companies in order to improve on people relations.

    Pros

Annual conference get-away IF you weren't on the bad list that year. 401K matched to 3% and opportunity to purchase stock. Given a stipend towards the purchase of a watch for personal use once probation period ends.

    Cons

EVERY KPI is measured and if you happen to be low on just one you are ridiculed, spoken down to and reminded that you can be replaced. You are either part of the "clique" or become the victim of interrogation by the National trainer. The style of leadership used can best be described as: "The carrot or the stick"!

Great environment to work in. Solid team of dedicated professionals. A caring company.

    Cons

No serious cons to speak of. It is a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Trim down the number of initiatives and keep people focused on a theme. Consider a work from home formal policy. Most companies allow 2 days a week.

I have been working at Movado Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The retail team is very goal oriented and success-share in many ways. The store I work at rewards it's team with free lunch once a month for making sales goals. As someone who enjoys building connections, I love that Movado allows for the opportunity to build long lasting relationships with each and every client.

    Cons

The background check and hiring stage of employment at Movado is a little longer then my typical comfort. With that being said I'm thrilled I was patient enough both of the times I've experienced it.

    Advice to Management

Continue looking into all dress code possibilities that will take us away from all black into more upbeat colors to match out upbeat music and vibe.

I worked at Movado Group (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent product and growth potential. Many types of positions available including retail, sales, analysis, etc. Growth was dynamic and the environment was interesting.

    Cons

The family members held key positions whether or not they were qualified. This meant that professionalism was lacking in certain departments. There was a bonus plan that was dangled over the employees each year, yet, despite record sales, there was always a reason to withhold it. The reason did not have anything to do with employee performance. One year, there was an inventory discrepancy- another year, it was the exchange rates or loss of one of their key brands.

    Advice to Management

When you hire outside expertise, empower them to do their jobs with professionalism and dignity. If complaints arise about family members who are not competent, address them.
