    Pros

MTD is an amazing place to work. I've worked here for almost 29 years and have never regretted one moment of it. The people are very friendly, upper management are wonderful, down to earth people. Additionally, the pay and benefits are great too.
We have several employees that have worked at this facility for as many years and even longer than I have. That should tell you something.

    Cons

Not a lot of growth opportunity here locally, but the corporate facility is much larger, with much more opportunity. MTD also has several other facilities in the U.S., as well as globally.

I worked at Mtd Southwest (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with products, defending MTD's market share in Gas String Trimmers, great people, working with motors, benchmarking against competition, direct access to Senior Management, working and leading cross function teams, weekly updates on program progress.

    Cons

Little knowledge of working with Gas engines in a high altitude environment (engines were manufactured in Nogales Mexico which is not the optimal altitude for many individuals in North America) Little innovation.

    Advice to Management

Develop a growth plan for all Product Marketing Line Managers for advancement, develop a mentoring program, develop a training program for those individuals with limited knowledge of gas powered products.

I worked at Mtd Southwest full-time

    Pros

Stable work. Low performance expectations. Great place to work if you don't aspire to climb up the ladder too far. There is a steady stream of people who work at the corporate office that stop in for about a year or two before bouncing back to the Valley City, OH headquarters. So if you are in the Valley City office, great place to get some experience and jump up in position. Some really good people to work with at the lower levels. Conflict is shunned. The company will likely be there for as long as gasoline outdoor power equipment dominates the market. Troy-bilt and Cub Cadet are good brands and carried by the big box stores.

    Cons

This is a family owned business and you will see about three family names running the whole place. There is a steady revolving door of people with different directions they will take you and you will follow. Interesting that you work on lawn and garden equipment in the desert... Conflict is shunned.

    Advice to Management

None, never found they took the time to even hear you out.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

They can't keep employees so they're bound to hire you soon.

    Cons

They don't care about employees and quality. Mostly consisting of a negative work environment and no chance to advance unless your close friends or family with the hierarchy. Worst place i ever worked.

    Advice to Management

Don't treat people like they're disposable. If your gonna go through the trouble of having a quality control, listen to them when they say parts aren't good.
