I have been working at Multimedia Games full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people in a great town. Fun products with list of creative opportunities!

    Cons

Seriously bad at merging technology. Living in Austin provides an opportunity to see different companies merge and join forces. This merger is so clunky! It's been months and the tech systems are not even united yet. Communication is terrible because of this and it's really hard to share things with the Vegas side with such technology problems. And there hasn't been any plan announced to fix any of it! Open enrollment is even being done on two different systems.

    Advice to Management

Get your IT house in order! We are trying to become one company but it's really hard when we all still work on different systems TEN MONTHS AFTER MERGER!!

"Voted one of the best places to work in Austin by its employees for many years in a row ... BUT"

I have been working at Multimedia Games full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall a really GREAT place to work!
    - A growing company in the casino industry
    - Flexible work hours
    - Great work/life balance
    - Generous snack subsidy and choices
    - Super casual dress code
    - A lot of training opportunity if you want it
    - Depending on the group, you get to work with a bunch of fun people
    - Does things to show employee appreciation

    Cons

    - Company just got bought by another casino-related company and has started laying people off
    - New executives changed bonus payout to once a year instead of every quarter depending on goals met
    - Not sure yet if new executives are going to start messing with the great atmosphere here
    - Not a lot of opportunity for career growth. People seem to be able to do career advancement after they leave.

    Advice to Management

This has been a REALLY great place to work! Will your employees want to keep rating this company as one of Austin's best places to work? Be careful what you do with this place. I know you spent a lot of money to buy us but that doesn't mean you need to come in and gut this place.

I have been working at Multimedia Games full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Quality work environment with, by a long shot, the best HR department I've ever had the pleasure to work with. The city of Austin itself is amazing and the Austin vibe has not yet be lost in the company. Looks at opportunities seriously and doesn't rush into a trend just because other groups might which keeps the company stable.

    Cons

Always seems to be a lot of office politics going on that you aren't ever really fully aware of yet are partially aware of at all times. The traffic on the main highway to the Austin facility is also terrible but the building is nice now that we've expanded and have a bit more room, this isn't so much on Multimedia Games and more on the city of Austin. Seems to prefer Mr. or Mrs. outside hire as opposed to an internal candidate with experience within the company for promotions if you're trying to move departments. Communication from the new ownership is also vague and slower than you feel it should be.

    Advice to Management

Our old executive team was amazing, installed a good vision, and was very communicative. Hopefully the new executive team will follow in their footsteps and share in the quality example as opposed to trying to micromanage down on a company that had really begun to make a name for itself.

    Pros

    Compensation
    People
    Organization
    Work / Life Balance
    Leading edge in MS technologies

    Cons

Lack of "real" senior strategic vision.
HUGE compensation gap between execs and VPs and Director.
    Lack of inductry visionaries.
Removed from industry because of location.

    Advice to Management

Fire 2 of the 6 partners (the ones that are never here), This company needs more indians and less Chiefs. Having execs that don't even have a permanent residence in Austin is demoralizing, specially when they make insane amounts of money.

    Pros

    No dress code
    New management making better decisions
Ping Pong ladder tournaments weekly. Even the execs play
Hard work is now recognized and rewarded

    Cons

No clear vision of the future of the company from upper management
Cost cutting started to get irritating, hard to fund projects or back-fill needed positions

    Advice to Management

Keep making good financial decisions, however, you need to figure out how to hold on the the remaining talent... And perhaps even attract some new talent? The stock has gone up since all the cost cutting, but without talented employees you won't have a product to sell.

    Pros

Fast Paced environment. Company Barbeque's. Fun and exciting projects. Co-workers are fun, friendly, and intelligent.

    Cons

Company seems to spread itself thin in new product development. While this can be attributed to the industry's demands, it would be nice to see growth in the use of products already in the market.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on acquiring/developing new game titles to expand our selection in current markets. Seek out additional markets that can utilize our existing products.
