Unfortunately, a poor experience -- sold on smoke & mirrors

Pros

Had strong talent & good, genuine people who have since left the company due to the cons.

Cons

Where to begin…. Unfortunately, the experience Multiverse provides is incredibly disappointing. In many cases, Multiverse reaches out to top talent across the tech industry, pushing the mission, sharing the big names that have invested to win the talent that joins… meanwhile they sell smoke and mirrors as the company is simply a mess. Multiverse's mission is to create a diverse group of future leaders through an alternative to college & corporate training. Awesome mission, right? Yes, it sounds good – which is why so many kind, smart, savvy sales professionals join the organization. The goal: to solve a mission that's way bigger than themselves & potentially impact millions of (diverse) lives. Even with such a strong mission, the opportunity still must be validated. During the evaluation process, many people ask questions around the state of the team & the company. The unfortunate part is that you are met with fluff & lies about the legitimacy of the sales process, customers, product, culture, and the maturity of the company as a whole. When you arrive at Multiverse, you are greeted by nice people (or should I say were.. Because many of them are gone) and you’re thrown right into the mess. From day 1, there’s no expectation setting on performance, minimal support in onboarding, and zero sales playbook (some may see this as an opportunity, but seeing that there is a sun-par product and no product market fit – what are you really selling?) Your job turns into a glorified BDR role weaponizing the mission (that is not being executed upon) to drive conversations that don’t go very far. What’s worse - if they do make progress, your champions will want to dig into the accuracy of some of the data presented, and you’ll be left creating more smoke and mirrors to mask the current state of the company. Many of our colleagues on “ramp” were terminated within months into their roles due to “underperformance”. In an enterprise role, where the average deal cycle is 6-8 months (at best), people were terminated within 2 months of starting. Make it make sense. Leadership seems to offer minimal transparency and micromanages, while middle management lacks the experience to hold the leadership positions (ex: player-coaches as sales managers with little-to-no management experience – when they sell you on their top notch leadership + skill development). Additionally, there is very little ethnic representation across manager+ level leadership (don’t forget, the mission is to create a diverse group of future leaders, ironically). To solidify the disconnect between the mission and the execution on it (both internally & externally), the entire diversity team at Multiverse turned over. It’s incredibly unfortunate because if Multiverse had the expertise and integrity in place to execute their mission the right way (at every level, both internally & externally) – they would have had the potential to positively impact millions of lives and the future of workforces everywhere. Instead, they should step aside and create space for mission-driven companies that close economic opportunity & diversity gaps … the right way. If you’re considering an opportunity at Multiverse as an AE, I would highly recommend reaching out to any sales person to ask about their experience prior to joining. Unfortunately, they will likely have many similar sentiments to the other Glassdoor reviews listed below.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your experience at Multiverse. We deeply value every piece of feedback because it helps us continue to evolve and improve for the sake of our mission. I'm glad to hear your positive feedback about the individuals you worked with during your time here. Building an engaging and supportive culture is really important to us. I am, however, disappointed to read about your negative experiences, and I appreciate your honesty. It seems your expectations from Multiverse didn't materialise the way you hoped, and for that, I am sorry. Sales is a critical part of our business and we are constantly revising our onboarding, sales processes, and support systems to adapt to our fast pace of growth. We are aware of the challenges we face and are actively working to improve these areas under the leadership of our new Chief Revenue Officer, Alex Varel. There are lots of changes in process and we look forward to seeing the impact of these over the coming months. Concerning the diversity in our leadership roles, we are very proud of our gender diversity (64% of our Global Leadership Team are women), but we acknowledge that we still have work to do in other areas. We are investing in recruitment partnerships to attract diverse talent and have implemented internal programmes to support employees from underrepresented backgrounds into leadership roles. I genuinely appreciate your detailed feedback, and I wish you the best in your future career endeavours. Paige - VP People + Talent

Pros

The sales team is full of talented amazing people, and it's so sad to see how leadership just sees you as a number..

Cons

Where to begin.. From the interview process to the first month, you're promised training for at least 1 year to make sure you're fully ramped. They tell you there is a great opportunity for career advancement, but then they turn around fire the newly hired people and lie to you and say it was due to "performance issues" and no worries, we now have our "A team". They flew the "A team" to NY for a sales training and put us in the most absurdly disgusting hotel I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I had to check the entire hotel for bed bugs.. They have unrealistic expectations and one day you're focused on X and another day you're focused on selling Y. there is no process, there is no actual training but a bunch of mumbo jumbo and they're wanting you to focus on the mission, but turn around and change it the next day. Leadership does not exist and the culture is SO TOXIC. I've never been so stressed about a job before in my life.. one day you're supposed to focus on spamming c-level with "new talent hires", in that afternoon, you're focused on "upskilling" only. They're not even focused on their own mission. They lure you in with a decent salary, but it's not worth being miserable every single day. You're just disposable. Targets are set way too high. They are using the same target goals as the UK team that basically sell the programs using government funding which doesn't exist in the US btw..they don't tell you that though. They don't even tell you what your quota is until 2 months in the role. Save your time and mental health and look for another company where you are actually valued.

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. It's great to hear your positive feedback about our talented team, but equally disappointing to learn that you felt undervalued. We understand the importance of feeling valued at work, and we're passionate about delivering this experience to all our team. With regard to training, we do pride ourselves on offering a unique learning and development experience for our team. Specifically within the Sales team, we deliver a 12 week Onboarding Academy to help set our new starters up for success. We’ve had lots of positive feedback about this but I’m sorry to hear you didn’t feel the same way. We also apologize for the accommodation during training and assure you we'll factor this into future planning. Rest assured, we place great importance on employee experience, and your feedback aids us in realizing areas for improvement. Thank you once again for your review. Best wishes, Paige - VP People + Talent

Hi, I am pleased to hear that you value the talented team you worked with at Multiverse - we focus on hiring dedicated, exceptional individuals who are committed to our mission. However, it's concerning to read some of your thoughts. We are proud of our diverse and inclusive workforce and while we acknowledge there's room for improvement at senior levels, it’s crucial to note that we're making great strides in this space—56% of our colleagues identify as women, including 60% at director level or above! Addressing your comments about our ask us anything sessions with the Senior Leadership Team, a group I am apart of, I can 100% guarantee those questions aren’t scripted. We also opened the floor to questions so I hope this settles things. As for your comment about our tech offering, we pride ourselves on continually innovating and building on our unique offering in the education sector. Our acquisition of Eduflow, our hiring of Ujjwal (CTO) and continued investment in AI to name a few, proves otherwise. Finally, I’m sorry to hear that your experience at Multiverse didn’t live up to your expectations, but it’s important to remember that organizations are complex and evolving. With time and continuous feedback from our employees (which we do appreciate), our intention is to constantly improve and create a place where everyone feels valued, challenged and rewarded. Best of luck with your next steps. Paige - VP People + Talent
