I have been working at Multnomah County Library part-time (More than 5 years)
You get to interact with a lot of interesting people, both coworkers and patrons.
Not a lot of opportunity for advancement
I have been working at Multnomah County Library full-time
-Protected by the union
-Great medical benefits if you are 30+ hours/week
-Friendly and supportive co-workers and managers
-Work in an environment of learning and resource sharing
-Working with the public and attempting to answer and help with any question they come in with
-Bureaucratic, so changes can move very very slow
-No one ever gets fired even if they are a terrible employee (a con to working in a union environment)
-A pro and a con would be there is a lot of internal promotion, but sometimes because we prefer to promote internally we have managers/administrators that are not really suited for that position
They have the best benefits!
The employees and managers need to show more leadership.
Advice to Management
Need to work more with there employees.
