    I worked at Murex full-time

    Pros

    A lot of great people, a good place to learn and grow, very good benefits for the USA

    Cons

    It's clear that some people are "in", some people are "out": it's not clear how that happens. Basically a complete lack of transparency: bonus, promotions, who gets involved in presales or interesting projects.

    Advice to Management

    Be more transparent with evaluations and processes even if it means vexing old timers, take more chances with people who've never been tried

    Pros

    World leading software (although now aging) and some of the brightest people you'll ever meet. If you do well here you're good. Generally excellent benefits.
    Probably the nicest group of owners you'll ever meet (in Paris). For younger members of staff there's a lot done of social events (parties, events, breakfasts) many of which are of a high quality.

    Cons

    Changes in senior management have changed the culture of the New York office. There is an increased level of churn in the staff - in particular longer term employees have been moving out - as the focus has moved to a younger/offshore sourced team. High usage of offshore hiring, not to the benefit of local staff. Work hours can be brutal and while many of the line managers are excellent technologists they have little if any experience in managing people. General situation is that people arrive - are very happy in the first 2-3 years and then become restless.

    Advice to Management

    Overall the product is very strong but the changes in the New York office, while improving the numbers (if temporarily) are leading to other bigger issues. Rating for management applies to NY only. Central management in Paris would earn six stars.

    "Not a good place to work at for finance/ econ/ stats majors, ok for IT. Messy customer support."

    Pros

    * dynamic environment
    * free drinks in the kitchen

    Cons

    * not a good place for finance/ econ/ stats majors, skills won't be used, worked with engineers who did not understand econometrics or derivative products
    * very little growth after a few months in the company
    * lots of vanity projects
    * expected to work 24/7 little bonuses no career opps (IT stigma, hard to sell to banks)
    * very disorganized
    * customer service shop

    Advice to Management

    Corporate culture shows distinctive lack of respect for employees, midlevel managers are very insecure. My boss decided he wanted to make my life difficult, so started sending me on half an hour meetings around the country, would scold me when I returned because he'd forgotten all about them.
    After a few months, lost all faith in the product, focus on fundamentals. How can anyone take you seriously if you can't price a call option right. Learn some stats.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to some people that is workaholic. They can leave the company soon.

    I worked at Murex full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good entry point to finance if you're fresh out of school
    Good Travel opportunities and benefits
    smart people and collegial atmosphere

    Cons

    Some managers are downright arrogant, disrespectful, and unprofessional
    With few exceptions, managers lack basic people and management skills
    Compensation could be better and end of year bonus is arbitrary
    Career development non-existent
    Senior management lacks leadership to motivate and communicates poorly with the base
    Long hours comparable to working at IB or HF but with less pay

    Advice to Management

    Be more respectful, professional and engaging with non-managers. Communicate better with your base.
    Pay more attention to soft and management skills
    Create more incentives to retain employees (better pay, career path, mento, engage talent).

    I worked at Murex full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Salary is OK among software companies;
    - Free drink and fruits in the kitchen;
    - Good benefits (insurance coverage, pension plan, etc.)

    Cons

    - Work environment seems casual, but people can be excessively nervous and sensitive whenever they hear something negative;
    - Too much micromanagement and instruction, little liberty to manage your own daily job;
    - Not a good career choice for the math/stats/finance major. The only possible career path is IT support or engineer (not even developer);
    - Strong focus on vanity projects to win over clients instead of product improvement, innovation and internal process streamlining;
    - Senior people seem nice, but are actually hypocritical and deduct employees' bonus and raise whenever they have the chance.

    Advice to Management

    - Be more genuine to your employees. Spend time and resource to train them instead of taking advantage of them.
