    Pros

You get to wear many hats at Murphy, you are in total control of your asset and able to make big changes if you see somewhere for improvement. Senior advisors are very willing to help and give advice and assistance to newer engineers.

    Cons

Management has a very misguided view of the world. They do not believe in a work life balance, they do not understand the amount of work they are asking their understaffed teams to accomplish, and they do not care to learn how to improve the system. Priorities changes multiple times a day, resulting in long hours for everyone without any reasoning behind it.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with your why. Try to understand what it is you are asking you employees to do as opposed to just forcing it to happen today. Shortcuts are never the answer, and this company lives off putting a bandaid on a problem and not really finding the root cause.

I have been working at Murphy Oil full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I am able to preform my duties without anyone looking over my shoulder and micro-managing me.

    Cons

Management makes 'off-the-cuff' decisions without thinking them through. There is a large wall put up between upper and lower management. No advice is requested and unsolicited advice is unwelcomed.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people when you make changes within the business that effect their lives outside of work. If you are not willing to make those changes yourself then they, most likely, will not be willing to make them either.

    Pros

Great place to work fast paced

    Cons

Canu keep good employees everyone is part time except 3 employees

    Advice to Management

Offer full-time it takes a strong team to run a business you can't do that with part time employees working 24 hrs a week

I worked at Murphy Oil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, opportunities are good long term and has a small company feel for a bigger company. Nice new office in Houston

    Cons

Lack of feedback and poor work life balance. As an intern it was not bad, but the Full time engineers spent plenty of weekends in the field with no overtime.

    Advice to Management

More feedback to interns and new engineers, and make sure they have the tools to succeed, or at least know where to find them.

    Pros

Excellent salary, good benefits, you live very close to work, no travel time.

    Cons

El Dorado, AR (Corporate Headquarters), small town thinking, women don't really count there. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

I have been working at Murphy Oil full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

All in all its a great place to be. Great people, freedom within job, laid back culture.

    Cons

Cronyism is the name of the game here. If you don't have the right friends you are stuck. But if you get picked to be one of the in crowd you are set. If you just blend in here thats all you'll ever do. Pay is wildly disparate with sometimes those without college degrees making triple digits, well over better educated people. Career advancement is tough.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent. Stop installing all of your yes men to serve your own needs. Stop hiring yes men or promoting them into management. Trust your subordinates to manager their teams and stop dictating hiring decisions.

    Pros

the pay is outstanding, commission is great too! It is a very easy and straight forward job. Nothing was too complicated!

    Cons

Different managers do things differently, nothing is the same at any gas station. Management finds anything and everything to blame on you. Usually if a manager screws up, its your fault!

    Advice to Management

Pick up the slack! some of the management is lazy! They expect the hourly people to do more work and still get out on time.

    Pros

The interaction with the public. Working at one of the kiosks, everyday it is something different., The contest we are engaged with all other stores is always fun to do. Seeing upper management getting involved is always interesting. It lets us know we all are working for the same goal.

    Cons

Not getting recognized for accomplishments achieved. Favortism out in the field,
