I have been working at Murray Guard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

uniform provided, get lots of reading done..

    Cons

moves from post to post with no warning, hour changes no warning. hours cut no warning, cant be depended on for steady work

    Advice to Management

listen to your minions and what they have to say and not the lying supervisors who are job scared and just tell you what you want to hear.

I have been working at Murray Guard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Quick to hire if you have a clean record.

    Cons

Coworkers never show up on time, if they show up at all. Management is sloppy and often unsupportive, but if one makes enough noise they "might" do something. In two months, I have not gotten off duty on time, and there's always some lame excuse as to why another officer didn't show. The site I'm on has lost at least two officers AND THE SITE SUPERVISOR AS WELL! All within two months!

    Advice to Management

Get your act together! This is the lax behavior that causes contracts to be lost !

I worked at Murray Guard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Plenty of hours if you want to work them.

    - If you're local to the area, it's a high paying job.

    - A lot of good people in the actual workforce.

    Cons

    - Competing companies pay about 15% more ($20 per hour @ MG vs $25 at Oak Ridge) to provide the same service for the Department of Energy, less than 2 hours away, despite the same cost of living.

    - Good Ole' Boy promotion system is embedded deep.

    - If you're a Veteran with experience, prepare to be talked down to by couch-commandos in management and training to the point of mockery (A Senior Management official called Reservists "Summer Camp kids" while I was there, and this individual had no prior military experience, so it wasn't a good natured jab from experience to be funny).

    - If you have experience, your opinion is not valued.

    - Issues with Murray Guard are enabled by issues within the Client.

    Advice to Management

    Stick to mall security.

I worked at Murray Guard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A chance to earn a paycheck. Easy enough to get hired, as long as you pass your background check and drug test.

    Cons

No benefits. Communication between the office and field officers is virtually non-existent and when it DOES happen, it's either confused or conflicting information. First shift opportunities seemed to rank up there with Bigfoot and UFOs, people have heard and read about them, but good luck actually finding one. As for advancement, the company is ran like a small 3rd world dictatorship, the only way you can climb up the ranks is if the person directly above you retires or DIES.

    Advice to Management

COMMUNICATE WITH THE OFFICERS IN THE FIELD!!!

I have been working at Murray Guard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The office staff is good most of the time. We all help each other out for the most part. The job isn't too difficult, and they're very laid back on your work load. Shifts (normally) are 4:30p-8a on 2 weekdays and then two 12 hours shifts on the weekends. 8-8.

    Cons

You will get called in to work on your off days. I have only had a handful of off days that I didn't get called to come in and work.

    Advice to Management

Either respect off days or raise the pay!

    Pros

Variety of assignments, clean uniforms, supportive management, they recognize potential. Open door policy

    Cons

They do not pay enough. Some assignments require guards to sit in their personal car in the dead if winter.

    Advice to Management

They recognize potential in future supervisors

I worked at Murray Guard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There really isn't anything good that I can say about the company. My experience with them from day 1 was literally a nightmare.

    Cons

To get hired you must travel quite a bit and you get no reimbursement. Pay is low for the expectation of the job. Standards are told but not kept. They say Equal Opportunity but use a buddy system for judge, jury, and executioner. And if your a male working with females be on your toes! Rumors and speculation will get you fired before facts do. And depending on your position and who your boss is will dictate how long you keep your job not your quality of work. There is really no room for job growth and pay raises are not an option unless the county you are in has there wages raised. Job performance is not a factor. In most cases biggest reason why they have low quality officers in places. Because they don't pay what individuals are worth.

    Advice to Management

Look at your sites and see the quality of officers that are there. If the quality isn't there, let people go. Stop being afraid of lawsuits. And quit worrying about the TVA contract. If everyone would just do their jobs then the contract would fall into place.
