I worked at Mutual of Omaha full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The Salary was somewhat competitive.

    Cons

Horrible Hostile Culture. Over-scrutinizing reviews 4 times a year. Nepotism and Favoritism throughout. IT Systems are very Legacy and pieced together. Management in jobs without proper skillsets or education. No one really even says good morning to each other. Basically soulless and wrong in every way. This is your warning....steer clear...The whole place runs on fear and intimidation. I have never seen so many people be fake to each other everyday.

    Advice to Management

I know that there is an effort to change the Culture and toxicity, however; it is way too ingrained to make and effective dent. There was one department in Actuarial that actually had a good atmosphere. All IT Senior Management need to be let go and the entire department needs restructured.

I worked at Mutual of Omaha full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Casual work environment; jeans, leggings and work appropriate blouses were fine.

    Cons

The organization is far too top-heavy; there are several managers on multiple tiers with their own agendas to pursue, and often those agendas compete against each other. As a result, none of the tasks analysts and associates are assigned are done as well as they could be. If it's good enough, then 'good enough' is acceptable.

Exercising initiative and taking ownership of additional tasks outside your job description is frowned upon, not rewarded. I was actually told to 'slow down' because I was making my colleagues look bad, and I didn't see a reason to lower my personal standards. The expectation is to come in, keep your head down, and do precisely what you're told, no more, no less.

    Advice to Management

Lose most of your middle-tier managers. Coordinate work between managers better. Give clear direction to the analysts and associates underneath you, and make sure those directions don't conflict with one another. Reward and praise initiative!

    Pros

One of the best companies I have ever worked for! Super awesome management team and your co workers are really supportive and highly encouraging. The training course they provide for the Sales and Solutions Agents is very detailed and information overloading! I only quit because I moved back to Louisiana to take care of family and i had not gotten licensed.

    Cons

I have nothing to complain about!

I worked at Mutual of Omaha full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Can't really think of a whole lot. They will negotiate pretty well for benefits and pay when first starting out, probably because they are desperate to get warm bodies through the door.

    Cons

Management is rude, expects you to work unlimited hours and does not respect you. Impossible to have work/life balance. Expect to be worked to the bone.

I worked at Mutual of Omaha full-time

    Pros

Less bureaucracy than most when it comes to getting things done. Good, personally sales people and managers. Family-like environment. Very negotiable way of working with people.

    Cons

Totally outdated technology. Borderline incompetence at home office in back office operations when it comes to getting things done. Large regional sales districts often operated by generations of the same family. Agents sometimes considered expendable.

    Advice to Management

Come into the 21st Century in terms of technology. Hold your administrators accountable for their mistakes. Treat your people in the field as assets and not expenses.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to the staff members. Management is always willing to help and is always there when they are needed.

I worked at Mutual of Omaha full-time

    Pros

    Great benefits, lots of opportunities

    Cons

very slow to make change, especially in technology. The mindset many departments is "if it isn't broke, why fix it?" No work from home.

    Advice to Management

Be advocates for improvement, not the status quo.
