      Poor training with constant turnover

      Pros

Friendly team with a very good community among the employees. Even the top producers who you would expect to only be worried about earning money are very helpful and willing to give advice and work with you. Local offices are full of great people.

      Cons

Terrible compensation structure for new advisors (AFP+ Contract), clear bias and favoritism to top producers from home office, bad training structure for new advisors, frequent turnover in management and advisor positions. I came to Mutual of Omaha as a new advisor in the industry and did not know just how bad the training program would be when I started it. On top of having to study for the grueling Series 65 and pass it in 2 attempts in 2 months, they have you complete their Trusted Selling program. Trusted Selling boils down to "Don't lie to clients, and do what's in their best interest." There's no training on products beyond what they expect you to know through your licensing requirements. There's also no clear support, as you end up bothering your manager for help instead of getting any cohesive and comprehensive training. As someone with no prior sales experience, the only advice I received was to sell to friends and family and then figure the rest out, as they have very little effective marketing help for new advisors. While getting help from successful veteran advisors was common, a new advisor should not be forced into the position of splitting their commission check with someone already making 6 figures, because they don't have the training, product knowledge, or marketing skills to gain clients. The AFP+ contract is your compensation. You basically have to come into the job with a large potential book of business to sell certain products to in order to make any of the base benefit. This number is incredibly difficult to reach in the first quarter, and only goes up each quarter. If you don't reach your quarter goals, you have the difference added on top of your next quarter in order to make it up. It's a snowball effect that is incredibly difficult to hit, and impossible to catch up to. Management is also in a constant turnover. For whatever reason, Mutual just can't keep their District or Regional Managers in their roles for more than 2 or 3 years. This bleeds down to the advisors who lose their only official support structure for months before a new manager comes in to change the norm.

      Pros

Great people culture that is evident through long tenured employees, solid benefits, great offerings at location like wellness, eateries, gym, nails, hair salon, etc. Most of all, I find that you feel like the company cares about its people and cultivates a culture of love.

      Cons

      None are evident for me.
