I worked at My Life Registry full-time

    Pros

Most of the staff are very nice and supportive. Management throws nice parties to give the aura of a "cool tech company."

    Cons

Management is unhinged. The CEO doesn't know what he's doing and takes no responsibility. Everything is always someone else's fault. The environment is very tense because of the CEOs outbursts. Employees are expected to work 50-70 hours/week. Holidays are not observed. Days off are frowned upon.

    Advice to Management

    Enact some basic HR policies

    Pros

Only real pro is that benefits (not compensation) are decent.

    Cons

Worst professional experience of my life. At the onset you are told that employees are expected to work 50 hour weeks, yet they are told to only report 40, in accordance with the law. Those who don't "won't last long here." Compensation is laughably low, especially by NYC standards, and they take advantage of foreigners and entry-level staff who don't know any better.
The company president is a total diva who is verbally abusive to staff and literally pitches temper fits over super petty things. At the interview they act sweet to you and brag of a tight-knit company culture. In reality, they are nasty to staff and micro-manage everyone like children. Nothing positive can be said. So glad to be out of there- I dreaded coming to work in the morning.

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat your employees like human beings that deserve your respect- not slaves who live to serve you.

    Pros

*If you really "wow" on your interview, you can negotiate a good salary for yourself.
*Since the company is so small, you will have many opportunities to prove yourself and try new roles.

    Cons

*Self-care and employee happiness is not a priority, therefore days off are rare and Holidays are rarely observed. Sick days are strongly discouraged.

*Myregistry.com strongly seeks a near perfect-fit with all employees, so turnover is very high. Most employee last between 3 - 6 months before being let go.

    * Positive Reinforcement is rare. The management team prefers a micromanaging philosophy. The staff is also reminded that "This is not a democracy."

    * There is no Human Resources office or representative on staff to handle concerns and manage the treatment of employees by management.

    Advice to Management

Employees should be treated with respect. A professional and friendly environment would be more beneficial to the success of the company.

    Pros

Claimed "cool" technology work. Could not prove that

    Cons

You are expected to work at minimum 9AM to 8PM (READ THAT AGAIN) no they are not a start up anymore.

    Advice to Management

Consider Life balance, then start working on something called work-life balance.

    Pros

Many opportunities to move up, try on new roles and develop new skills.
Much of the staff is talented and hardworking.
Office decor is attractive and edgy.

    Cons

Management thinks that because they allow casual dress and provide a fooseball table in the office, they are creating a "fun" working environment. In reality, they are short tempered and voice severe criticism and personal insults even to staff that are most dedicated and work the hardest. Employees are asked to lie on their time cards to prevent being compensated for hours they actually worked. Working environment always feels tense and volatile.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your bread and butter, so don't treat them as if they are so disposable.
