I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time

    Pros

I am most impressed with the culture at Myriad Genetics. There is a great sense of work/life balance and employees take pride in their work by finding solutions and helping patients. The learning and development opportunities are admirable, plus you are provided work time to complete your training. Myriad takes sustainability seriously with their Go Green program which is important to me. The culture is positive... and I can easily see where contributions are appreciated. Also, every employee is part of a profit sharing program which helps to stay focused on the business. Upper management is accessible, flexible, respectful and encouraging. The company intranet is well developed and maintained which aids in communicating important information and announcements. Beautiful building, free parking and a very clean work environment. Myriad is a top notch company and I am glad to be working here!

Myriad has a good health plan. If I had to look for a Con...I would ask for better. Absolutely not a deal breaker!!!

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work life balance is very manageable.

    Cons

Continually diminishing benefits, raises barely match inflation, management is inexperienced as they have all been promoted through Myriad and never worked else where. All these things tank moral, most employees show up for a pay check and don't really care at this point because they have been so demoralized by working here.

    Advice to Management

Fire most the mid level and upper management, get some real talent that has been vetted by years of experience in various companies, not just promoting the longest term employees to management roles. This isn't a start up, stop managing it like one.

I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There's a lot to like. 1. Flexible work environment, good approach to work-life balance - Everyone is very comfortable working remotely so it's easy to have a mix of in-office and remote days and work in a way that is optimal for you. 2. Good resource management - There is enough time to be thoughtful about your work and have the ability to plan. 3. Talented team members and supportive environment - Everyone... is really good at what they do and very welcoming/approachable. 4. Engaging and purposeful problems/challenges to work on - You're not working on another mobile app that measures success based on its user engagement. 5. Great location for people living on the peninsula, close to Caltrain (and not too bad for people in the city). 6. Quiet office environment - Even though it's an open office, you rarely need headphones. 7. Free daily lunch - Great variety and very tasty! 8. 401k matching - Rare to find a company that offers this.

    Cons

There aren't many cons, especially when balanced out with the pros of working here, but for some prospective employees, it may be worth noting that Myriad has: 1. Less competitive pay - Myriad isn't far off but could be a bit better. 2. Mediocre health benefits - Given all the other companies I've worked at in Silicon Valley, the health benefits at Myriad definitely pale in comparison. Many companies (even the... large ones) in the area have a low tier option that costs the employee nothing and provides the same level of coverage or better than what Myriad employees have to pay for. 3. Open office plan - There are worse things, but I think this office trend is counterproductive for most people and companies should start to consider other solutions.

    Advice to Management

Continue to gather and incorporate feedback from team members and support autonomy. Continue to promote great work-life balance and a flexible work environment – I think this is a huge enticement and competitive advantage for Myriad to attract and retain top talent. Push for better health benefits for employees.

    Pros

Benefits are competitive. They make work life balance flexible. Easy to get days off. By testing DNA for cancer causing gene mutations we help patients get the results they need and our work helps their families generations. Very fulfilling.

    Cons

I wish there was a work from home option!!!

I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Impressions after 1 month of employment: Good work/life balance, casual clothing allowed, parking garages provided for free, workout room provided for free, employer-subsidized food options available, lots of paid-leave holidays, and good benefits (most become available on day 1, like health insurance). Combine those things with the close location to trails while also being very close to anything in SLC proper,... this is a great place to work.

    Cons

You're commuting in the University of Utah traffic. No real issues to report yet.

I worked at Myriad Genetics full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Myriad is a chill place to work, low stress, very calm, good pay, lot of work fun events. Good benefits such as paid holidays, 401k, PTO, private gym, insurance etc. Great for work/life balance.

    Cons

Good luck in moving up within the company. Some techs have been here 5+ years and are still lab techs. So moving "up" is very difficult. Also, you work with the same people everyday so if you don't like them you are screwed.

I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Receptive leadership. Change occurs frequently. Innovative business. Strong performers are rewarded. Strong sense of community. Work/Life balance. Benefits. PTO/Vacation. Encouragement of employee ownership. Annual raises. Access to management

    Cons

Base pay is lower than competitors. Seasonal ebbs and flows in workload can lead to idle workers. Cost of benefits has increased every year for past 3+ years.

I have been working at Myriad Genetics full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

great health insurance, health-minded company w/ workout room, healthy food choices, good work-life balance for most

    Cons

management feels very directionless right now. scrambling for lots of quick wins instead of looking at long term plans. Morale is pretty low right now and it's hard to get a sense of what the long term plan is at Myriad. Promotions are hard to get unless you are in sales or part of a business unit. Salary isn't very competitive for a lot of positions here and it's hard to get a decent raise once you're in.

    Advice to Management

Be more competitive with salaries and promote more people from a variety of departments. More training for managers so they can better mentor and coach their employees.
