I have been working at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Health Care was decent and the PTO amount was decent. They gave a sort of bonus at Christmas a big old whopping $20 gift card. Pay was adequate!

    Cons

Smoke filled environment and if you are not Native American Good Luck getting treated fairly! No such thing as a Holiday. Expected to work every Holiday or grave consequences like mucho attendance points. No opportunities for advancement and if you get injured on the job you are considered a liability and risk and they try to get rid of you as fast as they can. In addition they offer little care when you are injured. You are not allowed to see a provider outside of their clinic. They also do no extra tests like an MRI or a CT Scan. I had a torn rotator cuff and all they did was PT which made it worse.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees like assets rather than expendable and unimportant.

I worked at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of PTO, but that's about it.

    Cons

Difficult to get days off, no holiday pay, the other employees are horrendous (yes, 99% of the 4,000 employees!), employee food costs have tripled, and both management and community members treat employees like dirt.

    Advice to Management

No, advice to the board of directors - wipe out all management from CEO down to middle management. FYI, you should probably also hire VP's who have a degree.

I worked at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no Pros to this place unless you are a favorite little minion or you're native. If you are great at the arts known as ass kissing, brown nosing, backstabbing, and being as fake as possible you will thrive and go far in this company regardless of your guest service, or years of hard work and dedication to this company.

    Cons

Parking in employee lot is horrible, and they cut shuttle service so if you are running late, you have to run a mile+ just to get into the building. All managers have HUGE EGOS, love to make up their own rules, abuse employees, talk bad about employees, and the list could go on forever. If you are native you can pretty much do whatever you want, your White managers are afraid of you :) take advantage of it!!! Most of them are people that have NO education and came in from the ground up. NO holiday pay and since when is the Chinese New Year a holiday in America? I've worked for 2 different departments and each has it's own rules on company policy and one even told me they hold high standards and follow the policy of the company to the written word, but yet do not base shifts or hours on seniority but rather by performance. So 7 years with a company has no baring when it comes to a new employee being hired and getting better hours and days off. To wrap this up because I could go on and write a book about it, Management in a nutshell SUCKS and the words condescending hypocrites are the first 2 that come to mind. Some departments have many supervisors and managers and you will find that even though it is not written in any company policy had book, that you will be required to remember each one of their different set up policies and procedures that they make up to suit their own needs. Basically they are all idiots who got lucky and know how to kiss ass extremely well.

    Advice to Management

Send all your managers to "lets all get on the same page and treat people that work hard with respect" school

I worked at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are nice,a lot of great shows in the Showroom. Most of my co-workers were okay.

    Cons

Takes two-months for health and dental to kick in, bosses don't work with employees, transparency is thin, the supervisors can't make up their minds. I wouldn't even send my worst enemy to this place if he was looking for a job. Just when things are going good it's no you are doing it wrong.
Can't talk to anyone even for a little bit or the boss gets mad.

    Advice to Management

Quit worrying you will get fired and maybe there won't be one person running the casino.

    Pros

Good pay, nice coworkers for the most part, nice company cafeteria for the employees with constantly changing options.

    Cons

Overtime is not optional, managers aren't very considerate, getting days off is nearly impossible unless you beg for it, don't take into account personal lives very much when it comes to not being able to work.

    Advice to Management

They need to do more training so everyone can do everything and be more willing to give people time off as well as letting them know if they receive it in advance.

I have been working at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay for the area is good, health benefits use to have an advantage but now you can get your own through the the government.

    Cons

Unfortunately, some management have deep rooted higher up connections, allowing for laziness, manipulation, claiming anothers work as their own, and negative bully like enforcement for their management style.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the frat house mentality, you've lost many great people over it, and still do, unless being employed for the last 20 years allows one to treat people badly, lie, manipulate, and overall kill morale.

    Pros

Decent pay, good medical and dental benefits, decent PTO.

    Cons

This company functions on 2 sets of management and policies. The first one is for "show" to give the impression that this sovereign nation implements employment practices similar to the public and private sector. The second being the reality of what how this company really operates. They rule by intimidation of job loss. They claim to encourage life balance but create obstacles to achieve it. The work atmosphere is rampant with "good ole' boys" mentality. Many rules sidelined by HR with "manager discretion" excuses. The list is endless but they consistently get away with it because they are a sovereign nation. With that said, if you're a hard worker expect to be rewarded in return, this is not the place for you. No amount of pay or benefits is worth the mental beating and emotional turmoil this company doles out on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your management and HR dept. Stop with the mixed company messages i.e.... posters that tell team members to stay home if they are sick but then punish them for being sick, policies that are in print but defer to management discretion, rewarding nonproductive team members and punishing productive team members. There many issues that never make it up the chain of command due to CYA. If the community wants to hang on to their $85k per community member month, you as upper management need to wake up. One day the Star Tribune will honestly report the truth about this company being voted as a TOP EMPLOYER.

    Pros

None at all I rather be homeless or work at taco bell.

    Cons

This place is a joke of a employer. Be ready to be mandated for every single holiday and "special" event with no time and a half or holiday pay. Management in every department is a idiot. No pto ever in less you are a survivor. Rude people everywhere. Work conditions suck.Management. I would not even recommend this place to my worst enemy. Run for the hills.

None that come to mind. Food served is terrible. Many employees have resigned rather than be a part of the corruption.

    Cons

Treat staff and customers poorly. Gaming at this casino should be investigated

I worked at Mystic Lake Casino and Hotel part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Easy job to get, although you won't make full time for several years, therefore no Bennies. You will work every holiday and weekend with no extra pay.

    Cons

An awful place to work. You will come to hate it quickly. Impossible to get a day off, as they can't get any more suckers to work here. If you are a woman you will be harassed and if you complain, you will be set up and fired. Fellow employees tend to smell and are not well groomed, but as long as they provide sexual favors to the management, they will be alright. Don't eat the food - its prepared in unclean kitchens. Smokey dirty atmosphere. Watch your back, as a fellow employee will stab it to move up.

    Advice to Management

Clean out all the old time management that got there from drinking and golfing and kissing up and start all over. The employees think the current management is a joke.
