I worked at NACCO Materials Handling full-time

    Pros

Starting salary for a college graduate was excellent, great people to work with; small hometown feel, regular 9-5, good health benefits

    Cons

Be prepared to do far more than what your job description asks. I was a Customer Service employee and I was having to learn Microsoft Access at a break-neck pace just to keep up. If you have no experience with Access, it's miserable. My first few weeks there were awful. As time went on it got much better.

    Advice to Management

My very first day on the job, before I'd even learned the information for MY job, I was sitting in the office of a company guru trying to learn something that was impossible for a brand new employee to learn. I wanted to quit after 3 days because I hadn't done anything relevant to MY job. My supervisor did little to no training with me and left it all to another employee under her. I would sit in my supervisor's office and wait for her to finish on social media before she'd pay attention to me. Maybe consider asking the non-management employees what their real opinion is, because as nice as my supervisor could be, she wasn't helpful. She often took credit for something I or another coworker had done that she hadn't touched. It was very frustrating to put in all the grunt work and never be recognized for what I'd done. People thought it was "easy," yet none of them did it themselves. It was always thrown at me. I loved the company. I loved the people I worked with. These are merely suggestions from, I guess, an outsider looking in.

I worked at NACCO Materials Handling full-time

    Pros

Good pay and benefits plus four day work week.

    Cons

Schedule to work overtime almost every weekend except first of mont and right after a holiday. This also usually meant the Friday and Satuday.

Same old style culture. Had a manager, who couldnt prove that employees were trained on certain things tell me to just "Make them do it!"

    Advice to Management

Change senior and junior leadership. Junior leadership perpetuates the lack of cultural change!

I have been working at NACCO Materials Handling full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

great improvements in our area. I work for line 2 and there seems to be a sense of teamwork. manager and supervisors make it happen and make us feel valued. we even have given our own shirts for line2. leadership is from the an hr manger so the recent supervisor is people saavy. good changes

    Cons

we preach accountability, but some employees are not held to the same standards. temps have been let go with numerous certifications and some core "old" employees are not requird to have certifications. Mangement allows them to stay as we lay off good temps....my advise...let the sorry core people go!

I worked at NACCO Materials Handling full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good pay and health benefits

    Cons

Management. First shift is looked after, and night shift is given the worst and harder jobs

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees they have more experience doing the job

    Pros

Work is not hard! Don't have to work overtime if scheduled!

    Cons

Workers not accountable for errors. Pay is low which makes it hard to hire good talent.
If trained workers are not available, then they need to properly train the workers.

    Advice to Management

Review the pay structure to see what it will take to hire qualified workers.
    Hold people accountable!
Take the time to train the workers!

    Pros

Gives you a glimpse into how a large company procures material.

    Cons

A lot of cubicle work but this is what should be expected for an internship.

    Pros

Employees are very friendly all-around. The work environment is product yet laid back. There is vast opportunity for advancement and great benefits, and employee discounts.

    Cons

There tended to be a large amount of miscommunication between dealers, and the department within NACCO. Also, paid once a month.

    Advice to Management

including some or all of non-manager employees in some of the regular department meetings would be helpful and informative.
