I worked at NAFI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The agency hires from within. They invest in their staff through training and education. They expect staff to succeed. There is a positive agency culture and positive norms. The agency culture expects direct feedback between staff and allows staff to take risks while still feeling supported. Clients are treated with respect in a non-punitive environment.

    Cons

The pay is medium-low, the work/life balance is hard to manage.

    Advice to Management

Offer more opportunities for advancement without a clinical degree.

"Great job, not for the faint of heart."

Current Employee - Shift Supervisor in Danvers, MA

I have been working at NAFI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You learn to really trust your co workers and have the opportunity to really be proud of your work in supporting the youth. Great opportunity to hone your crisis intervention skills and there was a lot of freedom for staff to initiate activities, projects and games.

    Cons

High turn over means you're always playing catch-up in training staff. Lower pay than comparative companies, but it makes up for it with a strong sense of community.

I worked at NAFI full-time for more than a year

    Pros

lots of over time more than you want

    Cons

unsafe environment. Management expects staff to put their lives in high crisis situations. Police are called several times for disturbance. There is potential for getting burned out. Management has the right words to say around parents. As soon as the parents leave The other side of staff comes out. They target certain teens to set them for restraints . They have clicks like high school grown ups. They set staff... up when you speak your mind and concerns. Be prepared to be manipulated by teenagers. Several 51a are files on staff. Management is not supportive.

    Advice to Management

Grow up. The job is difficult. The pay is poor. Try listening to your staff instead of yessing them to death so you can leave your shift on time. Try showing up at the group homes instead of ridiculing shift reports work in our position for a week.. Im sure you are all snickering now.

I worked at NAFI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great experience for those seeking a career in the Human Services field as a social worker, special education teacher, or therapist.

    Cons

I'd recommend not staying in direct care service for too long due to high turnover and possibility of burn out.

    Advice to Management

Provide veteran staff with promotional opportunities within the company and help them with job transition if employee is burned out.
