I worked at NASA as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

NASA has an amazing, built-out internship program. NASA really cares about the career progression and internship experience of all of its interns and fellows. During my time at NASA I made some great connections, got to do cool work, and learn just SO much. I continue to keep in touch with the internship program. So good! Accept this opportunity if you get it!

    Cons

I have nothing negative to say.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    I worked at NASA part-time

    Pros

You get to work with amazing people doing amazing things in the world. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you. The environment is very diverse and carefree, but still professional. You can grow and learn a lot of leadership skills.

    Cons

The work space can get pretty boring from day to day, working in the same cubicle with other people making noise and they aren't very helpful to your assignment

I have been working at NASA (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting work, good live work balance

    Cons

Government shutdowns mean paid leave. Sometimes lots of red tape, sometimes you have to deal with really old hardware, and old systems when better stuff is out there..

I worked at NASA as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I had great work life balance and I liked all the people I worked with. If you love science it is a great environment.

    Cons

There are a lot of top down decisions that just end up being things that we now have to deal with. Most are minor inconveniences but some can be actual problems.

    Advice to Management

Overall it was a good environment.

"NASA offers an un-paralleled experience for "out of this world" projects, but politics & red tape can crush innovation."

I have been working at NASA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to work on projects that do not exist anywhere else: Hubble Space Telescope, International Space Station, and so on. Research is cutting edge, redefining the boundaries of science and rewriting textbooks with discoveries we make in Earth Science, Global Climate Change, Nanotechnology, Electronics Research, Planetary Science, and much more. As a new hire you could have the opportunity to do very significant contributions and there are tracks to jump into a very important position at a very early age if you prove yourself competent and responsible.

    Cons

There are some really innovative ambitious people, but there still is a lot of dead-weight of those who just come into work and do the bare minimum, but do not really contribute to NASA as a organization moving forward.

    Advice to Management

Communication has slightly improved in recent years, but still has a long way to go to be more open and more inclusive with staff. Fight that red tape and refuse to be reactionary. Be wary of the "unintended consequences" of fixing your employees problems with a big hammer.

I have been working at NASA as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly and informal environment
The people are willing to share knowledge and experiences
Opportunity to work with very smart and high skilled people
    Flexible work journey

    Cons

A lot of bureaucracy to get the work done. Sometimes we need to buy some parts and they may took a lot to arrive, delaying the project. Furthermore, there are a lot of bureaucracy to certificate some projects.

  10. "The research work done at Goddard is challenging, yet very stasifying."

    Pros

The people working there are extremely friendly and very dedicated to their work. The geographic location is amazing, set in a rustic environment. The benefits are also excellent when compared to a similar job.

    Cons

Salary isn't as competitive as similar jobs in the industry. Funding is very limited and can be a limiting factor on your research.

    Advice to Management

Be nicer to your employees (although you already are quite nice). Remember that everyone is there because they want to be there.
