I have been working at NASCAR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Live in a great city. Work in a sport.

    Cons

No communication between departments inside your office, and no communication between league and media group. NMG nor NASCAR does NOT understand the power of what they have. This is a company moving backwards not forwards. They have no idea how to reach or grow their audience. Their LA office is nonexistent. They have no relationships, close their doors to outsiders and don't communicate internally. In Charlotte, they have no leader and no organization. They never promote from within. There is no sense of community or support. There are many cliques and egos. On the NASCAR level they have no care for NMG. Its all about the drivers and figuring out what their rule book and R&D. If you work at NMG you have no future within NASCAR. You'll collect your awful check and get screwed so many times you lose track.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your employees. They have a love and passion for NASCAR. Use them. Help them. Make them feel included.

"Only apply for senior management or higher"

    Pros

Despite the problems in structure and culture, the motorsports industry is very interesting the work for. It is not often that you walk through your office and you run into Richard Petty in the hallway and have to point him to the restroom. Travel to the tracks is fun (in the beginning) and the live environment makes the job challenging.

    Cons

Complete incompetence of middle management. If you are not a director or higher (or a close friend of one) you are not worth squat, your opinion does not matter and your skills are, by default, insignificant. I have worked with some very smart people in non-management positions and all share the same view. Cronyism is rampant within the company, leading to some very unqualified people in fairly powerful positions.

    Advice to Management

Keep close tabs on your middle management layer and keep in contact with all 'regular' employees and not just the chosen few. Do not exclusively hire just MBA's for all management positions, but make sure they have the additional skillset and background required to be able to understand the department they have to manage.

I worked at NASCAR as an intern

    Pros

Would be a great company to work for if you have a passion for NASCAR but they only hire within or Diversity to meet quotas which barely lasts 3-6 months.

    Cons

The HR team is all too busy hiring Unqualified Diversity Candidates to meet quotas. The Main one has a broad past of removing persons and ostracizing persons she doesn't like since her time at Teamwork. Don't bother applying unless you know nothing about NASCAR or are a diversity candidate. As of now they are all being investigated by a third party after complaints.

    Advice to Management

Fire the entire HR staff, Stop hiring unqualified persons, stop using ICMS which allows database changes to fit illegal means. Also stop looking at only if the person has paper and look at experience.
