I worked at NBCUniversal as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

NBCUniversal did a really great job with developing their internship program. Interns were encouraged to reach out to folks for informational interviews, tons of resources and workshops were provided to help interns succeed including resume & interview workshops, lunch & learns with top executives, etc. Great perks as well, such as free movie screenings, two annual park passes, employee discounts.

    Cons

Lots of red tape, typical to a corporate company.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, great benefits and nice people to work with.

    Cons

Each entity works very independently. Not much collaboration between groups. It seems like the company is not interested in employee retention. Lots of young, new graduates being hired in place of internal candidates.

    Advice to Management

    Value your long-term employees.

    Pros

Terrific benefits, competitive salary, and a company laser-focused on the mission and vision statements. Great atmosphere to work in!

    Cons

While there is plenty of opportunity for advancement, it is possible to find oneself with limited upward mobility in certain segments of the company.

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent company if you're looking for to independently produce film and television.

    Cons

It's an 'eat what you kill' position.

    Advice to Management

Very hands off, which is great, though could use some more management.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work with great people on a small show. It's a pretty low-stress environment.

    Cons

Very slow growth and not a lot of money.

    Advice to Management

People are much more likely to stick around if they are rewarded with raises and promotions. It's much more efficient than having to start from scratch with new employees every couple of years.

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits, perks, working side by side with good people (for the most part)

    Cons

Most of the people that get promoted, stepped on or stabbed other people in the back to get there OR generally have no idea what they are doing. Sometimes it's a combo of both. It's hard to stomach being lead by most of them.

    Advice to Management

Hire execs that legitimately work their way up so they have a clue of what their decisions mean for those below them. Send all execs thru JUMP (training for new managers of people). Just because someone is a Director/VP+, doesn't mean they know how to manage people. Encourage your execs to give a damn about the people working under them, not just when it suits them.
