I worked at NBCUniversal as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big company, large intern community, nbc summer intern events

    Cons

Not many cons, although you could feel "small"--especially as an intern--at such a big company. Really need to network throughout your summer to get a solid summer intern experience

    Advice to Management

    Keep at it

I worked at NBCUniversal part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Full benefits , great pay. It has a strong union on site. Shifts start and end outside of rush hour.

    Cons

Union is to strong here, so little room for growth development. Some of the bad coworkers therefore sneak into the system and are locked into positions that they don't deserve.

    Advice to Management

Increase availability to grow within the company

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - incredible people who really care about you
    - the company has incredible content and its great to work for a recognizable brand
    - depending on what position you are in you will get lots of free food, parties, perks etc.

    Cons

    - are perks enough? The company is pretty disconnected from their day to day business and how their aggressive partner expansion affects sales and account management
    - if you have a good idea, it will be heard, but likely nothing will be done about it
    - Sales Planners do all the legwork, yet are barred from being promoted to an Account Executive on TV which seems ridiculous
    - No room for growth in the sales vertical, your best bet is to wait until someone leaves and even then there are 10 internal people gunning for your same job

    Advice to Management

Invest in what you have before expanding too much. Our tech capabilities are not up to standard compared to the rest of the industry - but as usual the company only focuses on "premium content" and getting new partners.

I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits and company perks. Great opportunities for career growth and advancement.

    Cons

Although benefits and perks are generous, pay was below the average bell-curve in NYC area for the industry. Most leadership was exceptional, some were challenging.

I worked at NBCUniversal as an intern

    Pros

This company truly values a transparent culture. It is a great environment to learn in, as people seem to really value working on a team and helping one another out. No question is a dumb question. The headquarters also offer a lot of great amenities and the intern program is one of the best in the country.

    Cons

Sometimes it may seem difficult to meet other interns, so be pro- active.

I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great involvement and investment between employees/company and greater community. Lots of opportunities to volunteer, participate with other internal groups and engage with executives outside of your department or scope. Worthy HR events to participate in and meet people. Investment in women in entertainment and executive leadership.

    Cons

Difficult to gain a promotion and associated pay raise, even with stellar ratings from supervisors and consistent above-and-beyond work. I have worked here for 6+ years with only one acceptable title bump - which still does not appropriately cover the full width and breadth of what I do - and only one acceptable increase in pay. DO NOT accept a below-average figure from them in the initial - or any corporation, really - as you will find it incredibly hard to make up that lost ground.

    Advice to Management

Employee reviews should really mean something, not just be an HR fulfillment. Consistent, highly-regarded work should be rewarded, not be told "everyone thinks they do great work." (This is truly what an HR exec said to me once.)
