    I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good people, good product. Friendly place to work. Opportunity to move across areas within business. Senior management at US level very good.

    Cons

    People tend to stay in middle to upper management positions. Therefore career progression can be limited or slow, particularly in U.K. office. Greater opportunity for advancement outside U.K.

    I worked at NBCUniversal as a contractor

    Pros

    Well known company with many business units that are interesting, reasonable benefits.

    Cons

    Business units are like silos, little interaction with other divisions of the business, need to be a "favourite" to be considered for promotion, career development opportunities and any interesting project work.

    Advice to Management

    Start working better WITH staff and stop believing the myth that are 1,000 staff members to replace one existing staff member who raise legit issues that management believe is negative.

    I worked at NBCUniversal as a contractor

    Pros

    Easy to get in due to lack of interviewer knowledge...

    Cons

    ...Lack of internal knownledge.
    There is no real distinction between duties, only job titles.

    Advice to Management

    Re-org of senior UK IT management within project/architect team.
    Let the technical team do the work they are meant to.
    Do not say negative comments in team meetings. It comes across as being incompetent.

    I have been working at NBCUniversal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Interesting entertainment content, innovative media strategy, good employee perks (premieres, events, free content) and intelligent people to work with and work for.

    Cons

    Very hierarchical business, and each business division is quite siloed so there is often duplication of work across teams and lack of big picture vision.

    Advice to Management

    Cross department interaction along with cross department education would help to stop duplication of work and also help break down departmental silos.

    I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Brilliant product which people are super proud of and keen to work for

    Cons

    The gloss and glamour don't quite match the cold reality of work. For all the effort and passion many people put in, Senior Management is quite a way away from what really happens and or needs to happen to make it a happier place to work. Plenty of back stabbing and climbing over people to move up the career ladder

    Advice to Management

    Just be a bit more human, understand that the world does not evolve around you however much certain people tell you it does !

    I worked at NBCUniversal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The brands/merchandise (which is almost not seen anywhere in the actual building) and the company name which does not live up to it's expectations

    Cons

    This company has the absolute worst company culture in the UK and is filled with depressive disturbed people. The former is a very big concern that apparently is not being handled the right way and makes it very difficult to work with the people around you or to deal with the extreme mood swings on a daily basis. I have seen grown people behave like 4 year olds and even talk in toddler voice and this is not even being frowned upon by Management and HR. People here are also very very rude to the point that many just walk away. Having a door slammed in your face and not receiving a thank you after holding the door for someone is very normal. The turnover of people resigning is very high and people even seem to walk away from pay rises and promotions. Lying, cheating and deceiving is applauded by HR so don't bother knocking on their door. The level of experience in the HR department is also very far from what it is supposed to be and since they cant seem to find qualified permanent staff to run this department they fill HR with contractors who obviously do not care as this is not their permanent job. Walking into this company on a daily basis is mind numbing and makes happy and healthy people depressive. The ratio of diversity is very very low as you can easily count the non white people on your two hands. The rule of thumb comes out of the USA and even though american policies do not work in the EU, they decide what happens either way which brings with it absurd delays and massive profit loss. The competition in the market is highly adored to the point that it seems they want to replicate the big D by hiring all their staff at whatever cost necessary. This of course makes it a very boring wannabe replica that clearly does not work. Contractors fill all the gaps for which they fail to find permanent staff that is just not willing to work here and keeps resigning. What annoys me the most is that it is a waste of time to bring your good energy, healthy mind, perseverance, knowledge and creativity to work, only to deal with mentally disturbed management that will knock all of the above down just because they are dealing with their mood swings again. Such a weird company, it's unbelievable.

    Pros

    Good salary, great location
    Working with some of the smartest people in the world.
    Very successful company

    Cons

    Very hierarchical
    Too corporate for a media company.
    Promotions are given on personal feelings rather than merit which can be unfair
    Hard to advance up the ladder

    Advice to Management

    More should be done to advance managers, assistants and people Director level and below.

    I have been working at NBCUniversal (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good perks;
    Most of the execs are friendly, approachable and treat those working under them with respect, in fact for such a large company the ratio of people that are difficult to work with is very low;
    Successful company that keeps expanding so there is job security

    Cons

    Pretty rubbish salaries (they have a reputation for being the lowest paying studio);
    Progression is difficult and not actively encouraged - management seem to promote people based on their own agenda and the vibe is that it's just a job, not a career;
    One or two sales people let the side down by being aggressive and demanding

    Advice to Management

    Try to motivate staff better with clear goals
    Stop letting the bullies get away with unprofessional behaviour just because they earn a lot of money for the company
