I have been working at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work/life balance, decent co-workers/ easy commute/ interesting work

    Cons

Lack of opportunity to progress/no reward for good work/ very few salary raises and always far below inflation when we do get them/ benefits are so-so. If you're single and have no children they are good but if you have children or a spouse the contribution rate soars. No employer contribution to retirement accounts.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to reward your staff for hard work. Find ways to even minimally match retirement contributions.

I worked at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good Benefits Okay Pay Nice Location

    Cons

Managers/department heads are out of touch, resistant to change and in my case immensely unfit to lead a team Employee interest and well-being is not a priority and neither is work-life balance The morale is relatively low; coworkers are cordial and work together, but definitely not a familial atmosphere

I have been working at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time

    Pros

It's nice when you have good management. Flexible schedule. Good benefits and pension

    Cons

Low pay, it feels like I get underpaid for how much is expected of me, the Human Resources office is a HUGE JOKE

    Advice to Management

Human Resources needs to get on the same page. You may need to clean house.

    Cons

Dangerous conditions, bullying downtown management, stuck in the past, good ol boy south leadership, not respectful of diversity, ever diminishing benefits, poor salary raises fall behind local inflation

    Advice to Management

Modernize to private industry standards and follow the law concerning employment rights

I have been working at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time

    Pros

If you have a good director, then you are able to set your own work flow and there is very little day to day stress. Once you have figured out and set your own routine and understand your task then it is a very easy going and sometimes fun job.

    Cons

The only con is how tedious some of the processes and paperwork can be. (you cannot imagine the loops you have to jump through in order to just order something as simple as printer toner.

I have been working at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pro, per se, is that, as there are no incentives to excel, there are also limited reprocusssions for doing the bare minimum or less.

    Cons

    1. Luncheons will be led with prayer, before the group. I found it baffling as well. 2. The pay and benefits are abominable, and are not even in range of private industry roles. 3. Raises do not occur, unless the legislature votes them in. Expect to see your terrible pay stay the same, while inflation runs amok. 3. If you are a woman, you will be treated as if you were the receptionist, no matter the position... you hold. 4. Politics are king. You will see exceptions to the rules if someone knows someone in a position of influence. 5. Expect an overall attitude of complaisance. Tasks will always be pushed to the subordinate and rules will never change because no one cares enough to put forth effort. 6. Compliance is obligatory. Don't dare to be unique. You will be ostracized. The only happiness to be found here exists for mindless office drones, content to work the same job for 30 years.

I worked at NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services part-time

    Pros

My coworkers were amazing! It was a great experience to try something new.

    Cons

The downside was they only worked you 11 months of the year. You had to take a one month lay off a year. This is the states way of not having to offer benefits. You also work full time hours and are still only considered part time due to the month layoff.
