I have been working at NCH full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The truth. You probably won't make a Million bucks, but you WILL be able to make a good living and provide for your family with a really stable, well-respected company. Family owned company. Multiple departments as with any large company means that there are always opportunities to move into a job that is of most interest to you. Really nice facility. On site Cafe and Gym. Great people.

    Cons

You won't make a million bucks. Pretty conservative.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the next generation. Different workstyles and different needs. Be adaptable.

I have been working at NCH full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

NCH is a large privately held company with advantages to cross train with other positions to grow an associates skill set.

    Cons

No cons. This company is associate-centric, open minded and agile; ready to seize opportunities.

    Advice to Management

NCH is a great company to work for and the opportunities for an associate to grow their skill set and advance are open to the associate who is willing to pursue the next position.

I have been working at NCH full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They're flexible with schedules and the associates are really nice people.

    Cons

The supervisors and vp are the worst. They don't like independent thinking and are stuck in a business model from the 50's. You come second to field reps and constantly lose orders to them. So, don't count on a high commission or base pay. There's no room for advancement and you don't get raises. If you ask for one Gary just tells you to sell more. You're not allowed to be involved with company wide events. (Gary sends emails saying so but we always sneak down stairs for a minute or two.) You also stay at the same 2 weeks of PTO no matter how long you've worked here.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time on product knowledge instead of just teaching the gears. I myself asked about the differences in motor oil a few times the past couple of years and have yet to get a reply. Stop the competition with field reps and in house reps, it's turning your people against each other. And for the love of everything good, update staffware and clean up old accounts!

I worked at NCH full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The team I worked with at NCH was well rounded- we worked hard and laughed hard. The work was engaging and dynamic, ranging from biological questions to computational ones. Management was effective and good at guiding but not overbearing.

I left to pursue my PhD, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend NCH to a colleague.

    Cons

I was very happy with this job. The only con I can think of had nothing to do with NCH- the highway nearby was under construction and made commute times longer than they needed to be.

    Advice to Management

Charles and Amanda play well off each other. It was a pleasure to work for you guys.

I worked at NCH full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Very few if any. Some good people work there.

    Cons

    - Horrible management. They just complain about how their people don't work hard enough although everyone is answering emails at all hours of the night.
    - Systems are incredibly dated. CIO made the comment that they hadn't put a lot of money into the systems for over 10 years. How does a company function like that?!?
    - Pay is consistently 15%-20% below market value.
    - 2 weeks of vacation for the first 5 years is absurd in todays market and competitive job pool.
    - No maternity leave or no paternity leave. You have to go on FMLA for maternity leave. Really no paid leave at all.
    - Workforce is aging rapidly. Too many times I was told "well this is how we've always done it". New thoughts and processes are encouraged.
    - Everything is very sneaky and you always have to watch your back.
    - You are lied to constantly by Sr Leadership who keep just saying "everything is ok" when the staff knows its not.
    - Offices are old and dated. They do not encourage team events or have any culture at all. Everyone is constantly unhappy and complains. Turnover is extremely high.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people. Try to make it a fun place to work. Focus on the younger generation. Stop being "YES" men to your CEO and the Family. Treat your employee with respect.
