I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and many ways to advance in company. They do a good job in training members. Everyone keeps each other safe.

    Cons

Workers often feel overworked. Management expectations are far too high for employees. Can work 12 to 16 hour shifts. They can promise raises and bonuses but you never actually see them.

I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is going through some change, and while some see change as negative, change is necessary to grow. Some changes are hard, while others are easier to accept, but at the end of the day - I truly believe the management team is trying to do what's best for the customers, their employees and overall, the company.

Company is working on standardizing throughout, which allows for more transparency, efficiency and better compensation.

    Cons

Management needs to be better at listening to their direct reports to improve processes. This will create buy in, trust and efficiencies.

    Advice to Management

Don't be a roadblock. Be a channel for two-way communication.

    Cons

Don't care for some of the policies but accept them and move on, It seems in some changes made in 2008 thru 2012 we took a 20 year step back in time

    Advice to Management

Take a more active roll in andion,,,,,,

I worked at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

NCI really seems to care about its employees.

    Cons

There were some people in leadership positions that seemed a bit entitled but I think they're gone now.

    Advice to Management

Some change is good but don't lose sight of the people who have been in the business for a while.

    Pros

The job is challenging, but the duties and workflow are clearly defined. I really liked how much employee involvement there was as far as potlucks, Secret Santa, BBQs, etc. They also had a good benefits package.

    Cons

They struggled with some of their management when I was there, and a lot of the top managers were replaced (which I think was a good decision in the long run). It's also a long commute unless you live in Airway Heights. It's sometimes a challenge having the corporate office all the way in Texas. Advancement is slow if you don't want to transfer to another office.

    Advice to Management

It was smart to make Dave Z. the GM at Garco. I think he'll do a much better job with the company.

    Cons

Too many system changes with issues that could have been prevented.

    Pros

NCI is a good place to work. The people are great and always willing to help. Lively environment. You learn a lot.

    Cons

Salary is low for certain positions. A market review should be done in so that they are in line with other companies.

I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Weekly pay, decent benefits, mediocre pay, laid back shifts, easy work.

    Cons

Terrible coworkers, management is clueless, pushed to overwork yourself, major hours cut in winter, can't keep employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking about your numbers and start worrying about the employees

I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

NCI is a great company to work for. I always admire at its enthusiasm in implementing new technology. It allows the company to increase the employee's productivity and to improve the job satisfaction at the same time.

    Cons

Company relies heavily on conventional wisdom rather than trying to understand/implent the industry's best practices.

    Advice to Management

There is still lot of opportunity for the company to use Industry's best practices in many areas like quality, project management. Why always come up with your own customized unique solution when there is a proven best practice methodology?
