I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay can be decent at corporate office. Quarterly bonuses can be good. Pension is provided to some.

    Cons

Paralysis by analysis syndrome permeates the organization. Meetings, Councils, and Leadership meetings can take up your day. Often puts profits above safety and accuracy. Politics are extremely high, there are no allies. Large push to manufacture all Frames in Mexico and services in Costa Rica/India.

    Advice to Management

Thrust to document business processes only highlights a lack of understanding and strategy. Higher profits is a goal, not a strategy. Understand and use assets within your company before key knowledge areas are lost. Know your asset inventory before assuming there are none. Improve communication and be available for your staff. Increase safety in the plants, deadly accidents are very high. Ethics, Responsibility, Commitment, and Accountability should apply to ALL. Incorporate seasoned Marketing advisors into future plans.

I have been working at NCI Building Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with work schedule, and will work with you. They also hire every level employees which is great for students fresh out of college or if you are switching careers. Decent benefits and paid holidays.

    Cons

Compensation. They pay WAY below the industry standard and raises/“promotions” are a joke. The second bigger con is that everyone is related. Everybody who works is either married or related and the direct effect is there are people in management positions that have no buisness being there. Employees feel the biggest loss because they are not being probably trained or managed. They have a high turnover rate and cannot keep any new employees. So don’t plan on moving up in the company unless you are married to a project manager.

    Advice to Management

Stop overloading the hardest/best employees you have. They will eventually leave. Be more involved with your team. Instead of pointing blame and creating a hostile enviorment. Find a solution not who’s at fault. Stop hiring friends, family if they ARE NOT QUALIFIED.

    Pros

Contrary to a lot of the complaints about this company, at least where I'm at, the management is unobtrusive. Relaxed work environment even with expected hard deadlines.

    Cons

Direct competitors are sister companies whom we sometimes do work sharing with. Lack of a clear job description and hierarchy above your immediate superior.

    Pros

The pay is good and the talent pool is impressive.

    Cons

The company is unorganized, poor communication, takes advantage of the employee, job descriptions do not exist. Expect the unexpected. Turnover rate is high.

    Advice to Management

Let employees know what is expected of them and give them the freedom to do what is necessary to be successful. Give them the opportunity to succeed or fail and then coach if needed. Don't give up on them so quickly.
