I have been working at NCI full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cool positions and environments to work in. Co-workers were almost all nice interesting people.

    Cons

Job titles were not accurate and compensation was below industry averages by a large margin.

    Advice to Management

Give people job titles for the duties they perform, and average pay.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule
    Casual Dress environment

    Cons

    Favoritism in upper management
    Unqualified Team Leads
No growth opportunities, within NCI, unless your a Nurse, IT Specialist or Military

    Advice to Management

What's the point? They do as they please and cover everything up.

I have been working at NCI full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Contract world is always changing. Things are constantly evolving. If you work hard, there are some opportunities. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Benefits are very costly. Bonus structure appears to be only for Senior Management, low merit increases. Almost a "good ole boy" network with promotions. High turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Become aware of what the actual happenings are, promote more from within.

I worked at NCI as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary was okay for the area and the work performed, decent benefits. Some great co-workers throughout the contract, very easy going folks.

    Cons

Schedule flexibility dropped off over the years I was there, initially thou it was very good but due to some abuse it had to be curtailed.

Environment became increasingly toxic to the point the I saw people start one day and literally leave the next because of what they saw. Some employees , such as myself, made a run at staying for as long as possible before getting out.

Local program manager was awful, micro managing anything she could get her hands into and performing some of the most heinous targeting and retribution of individuals I have ever seen at a company (this has since been rectified with her dismissal).

    Advice to Management

Glad to know that true problem has been resolved, she was toxic. Get back to being employee-centric to all of your contract locations so that your employees will want to stay with you. I think that you can be a truly great company. Pay attention to your local managers better, they can get out of hand quickly.

I have been working at NCI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Each location is responsible for their own business decisions. A lot of great people at the current location. Work culture is determined at each location and is totally different culture at home office.

    Cons

Headquarters does not look within the company to fill open positions at other locations. This limits advancement in the company and forces good employees to look elsewhere for advancement. Which is funny, since a requirement of performance reviews is to complete a profile for advancement and placement at new contracts.

    Advice to Management

You have a lot of amazing talent. You should look to hire within to gain and retain great employees.

I have been working at NCI (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management allows employees the freedom to work independently with minimal oversight and management intervention, which allows the workforce to operate more efficiently and effectively while adding greater value to the government operations.

    Cons

The benefit package is less than satisfactory as a result of the government competing the most recent support contract using a lowest price/technically acceptable acquisition strategy, resulting in the firm having to cut both salaries and benefits.

    Advice to Management

Suggest any company not use a slash and burn approach to proposal submissions. The contract may be won, but the downside impacts are severe resulting in lowered employee morale and loss of key personnel from the operation

I worked at NCI as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people that I worked with were so great! They were patient to teach me and give me guidance whenever was necessary. They were also flexible with my schedule and other commitments that I had to honor.

    Cons

I would have liked to have been challenged more. I was doing easy organizational work and while that kept me busy, it wasn't very fulfilling. I also would have enjoyed working with other interns, instead of by myself.

    Advice to Management

Try to get the interns involved in projects where they can work together. Give them work that makes them feel as though they have a real impact on the company.
