I worked at NCR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, benefits were okay, flexibility to be away from office for family when needed.

    Cons

Micro managing, lack of management responsibility, inconsistent policies regarding who can work from home (every department is different).

    Advice to Management

    Listen more to your employees.

I have been working at NCR as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay most of the time.
    40+ hours a week.
    Overtime typical.

    Cons

    Always traveling.
They do not consider geography of locations, travel time frames, etc.
Likely you will not get a break, lunch time, etc., depending on what you are doing.
Major lack of sleep due to constant traveling.
Major lack of eating due to constant traveling.
Huge miles on personal vehicle, they refuse to provide vehicles despite them being GPS'd.
Pay very very low mileage rate ($0.23/mi) that result in costing you money for gasoline overall. To say nothing about covering wear and tear on your vehicle.
Lack of foresight, responsibility, skill, and other crucial business ideology.
Majorly outdated technology. Most of what I seen was from the 1980s.
Lack of trust in contracted employees with handling or ordering parts.
    Lack of common sense.
    Lack in communication.
Can only work for them 1 year as contractor before you must take 3 months off and then be rehired in again.
Lie about reasoning for not hiring.
Complain they don't have enough technicians, but do not hire any permanently.

    Advice to Management

Hire good contractors on permanently. Don't try to avoid taxes and health insurance costs by cutting off good employees to save a buck, so that you don't have to hire them on... only later to complain things aren't done right or not done. Use common sense. Business should be common sense. If you don't have common sense... then quit your job. Allow contractors to use company vehicles or pay IRS recommended mileage rates. The cars have GPS and insurance.

I worked at NCR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is always something new to do.

    Cons

There is always something new to do. Because there is always a crisis. Poor engineering and lack of executive management focus on "the one thing" prevent everyone below them from executing. When 14 things are important, nothing is.

    Advice to Management

Focus on engineering good products that don't break so you don't have to spend inordinate amounts of time reacting and fixing.

I worked at NCR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Midtown location is near MARTA and close to all the perks of Midtown.
Salaries are decent, benefits are decent.
Good bonus plan for managers (if profits are met).
New office in midtown will be state of the art.
Starting to adopt some innovative processes and policies.

    Cons

Upper management is corrupt and protect each other.
HR is mainly incompetent and useless.
    High employee turnover.
    Command and Control/intimidating upper management.
Managers are often skapegoated and fired often, causing a lot of turmoil.
    Watch your back culture.
    Incompetent upper management.
A lot of finger pointing being siloed depts.
Move to Midtown late 2017 will cause a huge turnover issue for northside Atlanta folks unwilling to do that commute.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul and review all of upper management. Stop setting hard working people up for failure. Don't pretend to adopt processes that you don't understand or want to support. Managers need training.

I have been working at NCR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

*salary and benefits are good- depends on what dept. you're in.
    *Location of office - Duluth
*If you are gay, lesbian, transgender NCR was voted 2017 Best Places to Work for LGBT equality

    Cons

*Work culture is pathetic - people look unhappy and paranoid about losing their jobs,
*The Shared Values, sound good and look good on paper, but definitely not practiced
    *30 year good ol boy team needs to go;
Senior Executive leadership is toxic - berating, yelling, belittling, manage by intimidation. supposedly to make people accountable
*No work life balance, very little flexibility
*Mgmt. is interested in reporting and numbers rather than allowing employees to do their jobs and caring about customers. A lot of micromanaging
**Not flexible or supportive of telecommuting - some areas are more so
*Moving to mid-town so everyone can be together to collaborate
    * Poor communication across the board

    Advice to Management

Bring in people that know how to build a software company and get rid of all the good ol boys that have been there way too long.
Feels like a very disconnected company, a lot of work needs to be done.

Having to work with overseas teams is challenging with language barriers and different time zones

    Pros

Best thing are some of the people

    Cons

Worst thing are some of the people

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to change. Company keeps making promises to improve but never does so that points to issues with leadership and their lack of understanding of what it takes to resolve their own business problems.

I worked at NCR full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

nice people, decent work conditions, albeit a bit outdated.

    Cons

Management can quickly derail your career with no protection from HR. Also, be aware of age discrimination. And when interviewing for an IT position make sure you fully understand who you will be working for/with since NCR employs a number of consulting firms.

    Advice to Management

need to de-layer. HR needs to look out for individuals, not Management.
