I worked at NCR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dealt with people from around the world.

    Cons

Dealt with people from around the world who did not care if they did a good job.

    Advice to Management

Management is hit or miss. Some are good and some are not. Really, too many of them.

I worked at NCR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked with a lot of bright smart and dedicated people willing to go the extra mile. If you don't like your boss, stick it out. Leadership shuffle happens yearly. Different boss every December for 3 years. Once twice in one year. Makes it easy for average performers to get by as there is no transition of performance.
Reworked bonus plan to include incentives for employee objectives. Avoid the fiasco that was 2016 where part of the company made a profit and earned bonus and part didn't. Thereby making a lie out of "one ncr" - see number 5 in cons.
If you need experience and want to learn to think in your feet, there are a lot of opportunities. Just have a backup plan. One way or the other your career will fizzle out. And again, there are a lot of good fun smart people there.

    Cons

1 All those people willing to go the extra mile would get to the end to find out the newest.way they'd be sh-it on and asked to do more with less.
2 all the offshoring of jobs for simple reason of salary and benefits. Yes NCR opened their own office in India for engineering. Why? They had plenty of good engineers on site in US who were laid off. Or when a position opens its filled in India.
3 if you are Support, your job goes offshore to Bosnia. Ask the folks in Application support or call centers in California, Ohio, Atlanta, dfw. No area is safe, team by team they transition them to Bosnia. This is not for follow the sun reasons either. Simply for cost savings.
4 Reorganization occurs every December for the 3 years I was there. Complete lack of consistency in leadership as teams are shuffled from one business unit to another. Makes it hard for great performers to gain traction with leadership.
5 leadership doesn't walk the talk. Much emphasis placed on employee culture while regular layoffs occur and workload continues to grow. Some layoffs are bottom performers, some are money motivated. The challenge is that door is always revolving showing the way out and people get scared by it and move on. Lack of stability.
6 worked more hours at ncr than I ever have in my career in one "opportunity" I was given. In another one I worked less hours than I ever have. It's feast or famine.

    Advice to Management

Walk the talk. Pick a strategy. No more strategy of the year. Have a 10 year plan. Be adaptable, be nimble, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I worked at NCR (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good group of local techs. Techs all very skillful and good at what they do. Local management on top of things and stand behind their people. Local management allows their workers to shine and take on more if they are so inclined.

    Cons

Upper management hinders the attempts of local management. Upper management expects the employees to adhere to a strict code of ethics and conduct that upper management ignores. The company is TOO bottom line fixated.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to practicing what you preach to those who do the actual work. Stop trying to get as much money from your customers and actually provide the products, services and support they pay for and deserve. If you don't follow this NCR will not be around to celebrate another 10 years.

I worked at NCR full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Training and pay are great

    Cons

Too much back pedaling, no management structure in place which presents confusion due to the overkill abrupt management changes. Its always the flavor of the day policy.

    Advice to Management

Get your upper management in order and stop hiring them on the pretense of being a desk sitter making up policies that shouldn't have any bearing on a technicians performance in the first place.

I worked at NCR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, online training courses, work-at-home opportunities

    Cons

There are many managers that have no leadership skills at all. Instead of taking responsibility when things go not right, they just blame other departments and people. No career opportunities.. It's not what you produce, but mostly who you know is important in promotion decisions. No career planning at all..

    Advice to Management

360 degree evaluation is urgently needed. Managers evaluate their employees but employees are not allowed to evaluate their managers. Stop delivering jobs to overseas for cheaper workforce, and respect your employees.
