I worked at NCS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the colleagues are very nice. The roti prata at the canteen is awesome. Also, there are plenty of people who somehow manage to find time to sleep at A2 and the rec room, so if you want to kun, you can go there.

    Cons

Lots of politicking so work performance doesn't matter. Some departments do not set out KPIs at all for the year, so your performance appraisal totally depends on how much your boss likes you. So in spite of working hard for the company, at the end of the day, it's obvious the 'high performers' are the ones who go out with the boss for breakfast, lunch, coffee, smoke break, dinner!

Also, the English and grammar used in this company is atrocious. When you pick up any brochure at the lobby to read, you have no idea what they're trying to say because it's all a bunch of IT jargon put together and you still don't know what the product is. It's pretty embarrassing especially when you have potential foreign clients.

Please do yourself a favour and try out at an MNC if you want to go into IT. At least they have KPIs and legitimate appraisals.

    Advice to Management

Seriously look into your performance appraisal system. It's really a joke. Also, don't you know that employees who transfer to another department are always given a very bad performance review by their previous department?

I worked at NCS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The users or employees we were supporting were understanding and patient... oh wait - they are NOT NCS employees but from Changi Hospital

    Cons

The managers are manipulating the service level beyond integrity level just "for show" that the management are doing a great job for the CIO to see. The truth is they are forcing the helpdesks and field engineers to falsify the records. When users complain about the slow resolution, the Managers and newly hired Managers blames the helpdesks and field engineers and kick them out of the company while some were forced to resign. This has been going on for a year and we don't have time to file a formal complaint against them, who would want to risk their name right?!

    Advice to Management

Highest Management of NCS? Uhm, if you don't have time to look at what is happening within your projects, then you wouldn't have the time to look at this comment this instant.

    Pros

above average salary.... coffee is good in canteen

    Cons

People will expect you to work for 24/7, You will not be asked rather you will be informed to work on weekend (which happens almost 3 weeks of the month). You can't make any plans once you are working for it. Most of the projects having support kind of activity, there is nothing as such development.

I have been working at NCS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a good place for lower level technical staff. Good project managers. Make sure you stay technically involved in the projects and avoid being "promoted" up the chain. Stay at Technical Lead level will be ideal. Otherwise you will be stuck with clueless business/account leaders, ineffective resource management and tonnes of reporting while management avoid the real issues.

    Cons

Very bad top management, resulting in high turnover of good leaders. Turnover is especially high in new growth areas due to lack of top management vision and support. If you are thinking of coming in as an Assistant Director and above, think twice before accepting any offer. Any level lower than that is probably ok but keep your eyes/ears open. Zero worklife balance. Be prepared to work beyond reasonable effort for extended periods.

    Advice to Management

Quit. You are affecting too many people's lives.

I have been working at NCS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good for lower level consultants, but don't stay more than 2 years. There's nothing for you to learn after that.

    Cons

Absolutely zero leadership from the very top, i.e. CEO - GM level. Most of the folks are not qualified to lead, had been there since Day 1, or hired on whims and fancy. Wrong people remains, good people left in a hurry. Check out with your friends and headhunters who were the folks who left recently within last 6 months and figure out for yourself.

Absolutely zero work-life balance. You work 15 hours/day and even on weekends, all because of bad management - shifting of goalposts, directionless, whims and fancy, shoot in the dark.

    Advice to Management

The top management should be revamped. All smoke and mirrors. Clueless. Only reason why they still have projects is because Govt keeps giving projects to them - left to right pocket. Only 2 companies here for the Govt sector - NCS and STE. Worse is that outside of the protection of Singapore, NCS can't survive, let alone compete.
