I have been working at NCSOFT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is good compared to many other companies. Benefits are okay/standard.

They seem to be hiring like crazy. The publishing team has put an entirely new executive team in place in the last 4-5 months and things seem to be picking up some momentum with new games and projects.

Team and department events/perks seem to be picking up, like group happy hours, department lunches and team movies. Still has some way to go on the perks, but people seem to be having fun again.

New games and WildStar transitioning to Free to Play seem like they could put some revenues back into the company. New mobile studio in SF-area is exciting too.

    Cons

There's a complicated history at the company where there are all kinds of weird policies and procedures in place. Sounds like people are trying to fix that, but there's a long way to go still.

Perks and morale are improving, but still need work.

    Advice to Management

More perks, more fun - and maybe a hit game or two. Make your employees feel heard and give them chances to meet all the new people coming in!

    Pros

Playing any game from other game companies is okay during business hour.
    Play and make money.
Dont make an effort to get recognized.
They dont care if you work hard or not.

    Cons

Business is falling apart. They dont make enough money to keep the company in US. Oneday they will close their business on western territory for sure. Then, you will lose your job.

    Advice to Management

Hey high management, please dont underestimate your emplyees but respect them. Do you even care or know who is working for you?? Your job does not exist if they are not there. Talk to them and listen to what the company needs for improvement. Emplyees make money but not you. You should be truely thankful with an action(NOT A WORD.) Why do you guys have performance review? This does not affect your salary and bonus not much.

    Pros

The people were great until layoffs occurred.

    Cons

Layoffs took out most of the good people. Procedures and policies bog everything down.

    Pros

Cool former location downtown, and nice co-workers. Parking subsidy was nice since downtown parking is so expensive.

    Cons

With so much distrust from HQ in Seoul, there was a rotating set of leaders and constant last minute direction changes from afar. It wasn't uncommon to see someone escorted out by security on a monthly basis per regular layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Stop micro-managing and let those with expertise in the local market run the show.

I have been working at NCSOFT full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

We make and publish great games. Some old, some new. Many of these games, such as WildStar, are getting better every month.

There are great people -- people who work hard, support each other, and care deeply about the future of this place.

There is an exciting vision here -- but, the organization is still very much in a building phase. This means that people that join have an enormous opportunity to come in and help shape how things work. For people who are willing and able to roll up their sleeves, collaborate across teams, and put their mark on something -- I can't think of a better opportunity.

    Cons

Reading over these reviews, it is evident that six to 12 months ago there was a lot of uncertainty and dissatisfaction. Some of that is almost certainly still here. While a lot of things have changed over the last few months, the company is still absolutely in the process of building. If you are looking for a place where all processes are established and all roles are clearly defined, this is not that place.

There is still a huge amount of work that needs to be done for NCSOFT to reach its potential. There is progress every day, but it can be slow ... sometimes way too slow. That can be incredibly frustrating. Also, NCSOFT doesn't really have a strong public identity or reputation in the West.

    Advice to Management

Invest more time and resources on building teams across departments, across studios and across regions. Also, find ways to recognize employees who demonstrate their passion and go above and beyond (there are a lot of them).

    Cons

    Pros

Nice location, close to multitude of restaurants, shopping.

    Cons

There is no direction. People get hired one day, only to be laid off a few months later. It's a joke. There hasn't been a studio head in eons, which is telling that nobody wants to lead this place. HR guy is interim studio head. In meetings there is talk about "the plan to make plans". Great strategy!
The offices are dirty and disgusting. I don't know if the place was ever vacuumed the entire time I have been there. It's really gross.
Managers are ridiculously self-centered and like to hear the sound of their own voice WAY too much. Guy I worked for always had to one-up everybody else, even so far as to when someone was talking about a loved one passing, and how badly she had to suffer, he had to top that by saying "Well I had a relative who had it even worse..." blablabla. That's pretty much what you're getting into. No wonder this place is going under.
People in manager position in operations are dishonest, in OC as well as Austin. People do not know how to communicate. There are always tensions between Austin and OC. Written communications of team members are horrendous, making you question how they ever passed an English class.

    Advice to Management

    What management?

    Pros

There were really some awesome people working there both in the Austin and Seattle office.

    Cons

The exec leadership has been changing every few years and thus the goals and priority changes and leaves the company constantly in a huge state of flux.

    Advice to Management

Either invest or shut it down
