I worked at NEC Corporation of America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits (though starting to erode a bit); some great people who work there. Bonuses for even non-sales when times are good. Some of the divisional and departmental managers are really good, but your success depends on whether you have a good manager or not.

    Cons

Terrible executive management in North America. Not visionary and stuck in the past. Too much reliance on "waiting for Japan to act."

    Advice to Management

Management should take a hard look at the offerings and focus on areas where NEC can dominate. Also, get rid of the deadwood when you start doing the annual layoffs. Too many of the good team members are let go, while others who do very little remain simply because they've been there so long.

I have been working at NEC Corporation of America full-time

    Pros

This company is great. They care about their employees and have frequent events to show their appreciation. I enjoy the family atmosphere. You enjoy working hard for them.

    Cons

NEC is operating in a fiercely competitive market and deals have to be worked hard to closure. The US market knows very little about this exceptional company's award winning products in North America compared to Japan.

    Advice to Management

More communication of the firm's value proposition in media and social networking marketing outlets and Ad channels. I frequently hear, "I didn't know NEC makes that!"

I worked at NEC Corporation of America (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Was empowered to run the business.

    Cons

Needed better sales team, would work well to actively recruit all year round. Wasn't too sure of the direction of the sales teams.

    Advice to Management

Good work environment, great opportunities. Hard to keep up a good pace in the event we didn't make numbers, we were instructed to layoff team members. Clients didn't like that as they were the face of NEC.

    Pros

very flexible working environment and encourage creative thinking to solve the real problems. The managers here are very supportive and have good vision

    Cons

communication with headquarters in Japan is sometimes very difficult due to culture and language barrier. Need to travel to Japan often if necessary.

    Advice to Management

understand what is our core value in the company and hope to make a breakthrough to benefit the company as a whole rather than working on single short-term target

I worked at NEC Corporation of America (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive Wage, Good Benefits, 401K, etc.

    Cons

Very poor leadership / management team at the mid management level. The level above seemed good but the middle management level was terrible. Close to hostile work environment. Big old boys club and no effective resources to do your job with very little support or help. Very much sink or swim with very little direction or leadership. Treated (not the only one - many stories) very unfairly as a woman. Heard of many previous employees wanting to file law suits. I just wanted out.

    Advice to Management

Middle Management in some areas of the organization need to be VERY closely looked at. Especially within the SE organization, you have some loose cannons on your hands with harassment (guess which form) written all over it.

    Pros

Hard working people in all departments. Great internship program, well planned by HR balancing general intern activities (field trips etc.) with letting you do work for your specific department.

    Cons

Big age gap. Some of the people at NEC have been working here for a long time so they get comfortable with old processes and don't want change.
