    Pros

Loyal customers and employees, that work hard to deliver promised technology. Benefits were above other US companies. You got rid of Hooper and gang, now just one more to go!

    Cons

The Hooper and Takahashi era is proving to diminish the NEC footprint in the US. Technology lags industry leaders and no strategy to improve the current path.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to look at management, you are the reason the company is failing. Stop sitting in a room and pretending everything is going to improve. It isn't!

    Pros

In my opinion only, the company is global in nature, very stable from a 150+ year old company, many technology under it's umbrella. Company benefits competitive. Strong presence as a global company and many want to partner with the company.

    Cons

In my opinion only, direction is lacking, too many products that are not streamlined to generate a clear picture in the market. With all the technology it has, the ability to leverage is weak.

    Advice to Management

Build a strategic direction, work to get ideas from employees, have management work to deliver the same message both internally and externally. Implement the message to come to fruition.

    Pros

NEC ECT has a small company feel. The culture is cooperative. All groups work together to deliver the best product possible. Middle management is very knowledgeable about the product and technologies. Middle management is generally supportive of the developers.

The development is fast paced. There are a number of technologies in use so technical opportunities abound.

    Cons

NEC has competing products in the UC space and has not invested enough in NEC ECT's product, 3C, particularly in the areas of marketing and sales.

The small size of the company limits opportunities for advancement to management.

    Advice to Management

Decide where the future lies and eliminate duplicate product offerings. Market and sell 3C aggressively.

    Cons

    - Lacks a more competitive approach to the market
    - Product portfolio is conservative and the business cycle is longer than an American-based company
    - Slow motion decisions

    Advice to Management

The company is great, but it demands a more competitive approach to the market.

I have been working at NEC Corporation of America full-time

    Pros

Low Turnover. Work/Life Balance. Majority of the employees are very considerate, kind and great people to work with. There is a very good corporate culture in terms of respect across all position levels. Negative behaviors such as bickering and unjustifiable contentions are not tolerated.

    Cons

Too much internal competition. Not open to acquiring new tools to replace older tools due to fear of change, cost of replacement and the hassle of retraining. Lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

The company has suffered over the years due to the mistakes made by certain executive members. More accountability has to be in placed especially for those higher up in the chain of command. Employees who have been at NEC for a while should be more willing to accept change that will benefit the company and its future. It will be up to the Executive Management(EM) to sell this to the workforce and help the workforce focus on the future, not the present or the past. Some visions have been cast by the EM during the townhall meetings but they are generally very vague and all encompassing. More specifics action items and goals have to be added. Each BU leader has to say what he/she is responsible for to be accountable to the employees.

    Pros

Great innovation in Japan. They really push the boundaries of technology.

    Cons

Great innovation in Japan, but never figured out how to grow the NA business. Even if businesses were growing they would bring in leaders that would derail successful business.

    Advice to Management

Develop a strategy and let it execute for a couple of years before shunning it midway and hire the right type of leaders.
