I worked at NETGEAR (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, strong positive culture, fast-paced and great technology toys to play with. You can get lots of responsibility if you can last long enough. Have a lot of momentum right now in the transactional retail and com space.

    Cons

Grinding work style in a very lean environment burns many people out in a few years. There is always a level of organizational friction that creates confusion and waste.

    Advice to Management

Don't try to do too many things; keep focusing on your strengths and building the company around those capabilities and skills.

I have been working at NETGEAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some nice people are still left at this company, although most with talent have already run for the door. The company has decent salary structure - for some positions its quite competitive in the valley. Free coffee, and sometimes a lottery for tickets to hockey games when the CEO can't attend. Good location at the heart of silicon valley, not far from freeways. Chinese food often brought in for quarterly meetings.

    Cons

Customer Support department has their budget sliced every year, which means that the Netgear customer can get virtually no product support when their products break down. Nearly complete turnover in marketing, as key people all quit when new management was brought in, and those individuals were the ones driving all of the innovation. New management team is floundering, with no experience in the market. R&D is lacking, and company is struggling to find its place. Product quality has gone downhill due to increasing budget cuts. Company tries to play in smart home market but poor product quality disappoints customers over and over.

    Advice to Management

Stop posting fake reviews here to boost the company score (you know who you are). Those of us in the company reading it can see right through it. HR team should take Glassdoor reviews seriously instead of dismissing them. The negative feedback on Glassdoor is similar to your own internal surveys so you can't deny it. This used to be a good company but you took your eye off the ball. Care about your customers and spend more to make better products and support them with good customer service or you will continue to bring up the rear in a list of competitors that are quickly outpacing your technology. Stop pretending to play in the smart home market with me-too products and focus on your core strength in networking.

I have been working at NETGEAR full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits: Health care is completely paid for individuals and low cost for families, bagel and fruit Fridays, nice employee purchase plan for products and decent espp. It really depends on what you group you are in here at NETGEAR. Some groups have nice employees and managers.

    Cons

In general, upper-management has been here awhile and it's the same old thing over and over. Promotions are not based on merit but instead given to people who are friends with upper management. Bonus % seems very attractive if it pays out (doesn't happen often). Change here is extremely slow. There have been numerous employee surveys and only minor changes have resulted.

Additionally this company is spoon fed everything from the CEO. They outsource damn near everything and as a result product quality has suffered. Product firmware is god awful, I wont even purchase our products at a 50% discount.

    Advice to Management

Look at groups with high turnover. There are clearly managers here who have zero people skills and are buddy/buddy with upper management. The group I am in has just about been completely turned over in less than 18 months. This has happened in similar groups as well yet those managers were promoted. Personal recommendation is for the board of directors to make an executive decision to replace upper management over the next year or two. This problem will never get fixed with the same upper management.
They need to bring in in-house talent for aspects of their products that are important for product differentiation instead of outsourcing almost everything to the ODM.

    Cons

Incumbent self promoting management misrepresent talented employees just to fire them. Constant harassment for none existing fault in order to gain authority. Suicide career, family and ultimately self esteem. One should realize the company's operation philosophy when it spends all the cash in share buy back instead of R&D

    Advice to Management

Remove management that constantly harassing contributing employees
