Sometimes I really enjoyed Nexon! Most times I sighed and dealt with it.

I haven't worked at Nexon in awhile, but while I was there: 1. Backing of the well funded Asian arm ensured the company wasn't shutting down overnight. That counts as a blessing these days. 2. Effort to be create a full fledged publishing operation created new units and focused on improving many aspects of current operations. 3. Like-minded, passionate people who you bond with because you are going through a traumatic experience together and spending more time with than your significant other.
Cons
1. Pay was mediocre 2. Work/life balance was not a consideration. If work to be done, it needs to be done. 3. The import of employees from Korea plus hiring of locals caused a fissure in the org that really wasn't justified. Nexon is tough on everyone equally. 4. Leadership lacked experience in running a company.

Pros
Altogether, I had a bit of work and a great team.
Cons
Work/life balance as well as the system if promotions. A guy who does his work ahead of time is considered worse that a guy who does his job later and stays in the office helping others in vague ways.

Chaos reigns. Instability prevents the projects from succeeding and the talent from prevailing
Jan 10, 2018 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are plenty of smart, skilled people in the office. The creative team is very skilled and an asset to the company. The benefits (health, dental, etc) are above average
Cons
Below market wages - Salaries ranged from 10-20% market value for the industry and city. This prevents top talent from coming, or if they do come, it stops them from leaving. Given the company's lack of prestige, suboptimal culture, and lack of potential, one would think they would overpay to compensate. Most people who are above average view the company as a stepping stone. Severe lack of senior and upper management - Most projects have a lead (usually Sr. Manager level) who then report to the GM. There is almost no middle to upper management. This means there is no vision beyond 6 months, no mentorship, and a real lack of stability if something goes amiss. Chaos reigns in the office when something goes wrong, which is often. The HR did provide some training to help the staff improve, which it did, but the problem isn't with the people, it's with the company culture and structure. Befuddling bureaucracy - Speaking of HR/admin. It took way longer to get payments and expenses approved than needed. Travel booking was confusing, Purchase orders required multiple superfluous steps and oversight, and expense reports often needed approval from 3 departments, even with a VP signature. Whirlwind turnover rates - One project saw nearly 20 manager or higher level employees leave the company or transfer projects over a 2-year span. The constant turnover in key staff members is a sure byproduct of the above issues, low pay and lack of vision. Chaos reigned. Horrible work/life balance - The chaos, the lack of management produced an environment where people were consistently asked to take on work due to low staff. The Sr. management didn't properly downscale the work to fit the available staff, which resulted in longer days and lesser quality work. There is also a culture of managing through email, which is not a positive in any situation. Inboxes were busy all of the time with constant needs and pings, most of which could usually be resolved with meetings or face to face conversations. Most people averaged over 150 emails (roughly half of which are critical) in their inbox a day during heavy work periods.

I've worked in the creative department at Nexon for 10 months and have seen a change in Sr. Management (Director level over creative, Marketing and Customer Service groups) and some restructure. Some people left, some people were asked to leave and some new faces came on board. Overall the place has improved a ton since the end of 2014. Pros: I genuinely like all of the people I work with and have laughed every single day since I started in July 2013. Management seems to be getting closer to a unified vision and seems to be making strides in driving the business in the right direction. I believe Nexon is positioned to be big in the industry in the next few years. I've had a lot of freedom and autonomy to drive the changes I believe are best. This works if you don't like to be micromanaged and can rise to the challenge of driving results yourself. I know some departments have a problem with long hours but I've only put in a handful of late nights here while big projects are getting ready to ship. I think the work/life balance is fair and competitive. 1 paid off between christmas and new years is awesome.
Cons
The departments need to learn to work better together (See a comment a few down that says "interference by less important departments" wtf? You think LGP is the only important department?) There are still a good amount of people who say "But that's not the way we've done it in the past." Gotta lose that, super frustrating. A lot of bad opinions of Nexon on the web (and rightly so, lots of bad policies in the past at the expense of gamers.)
