I have been working at NEXON full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people across all departments. Flexible hours. Good location.

    Cons

Company is too cheap to pay to clean floors, refill soap in the bathrooms. Extreme racism towards non-Koreans. No actual experience developing or publishing western games. Most of the leadership, operations team do not speak fluent english, which is embarrassing and frustrating when trying to work with western studios.

    Advice to Management

If you want to succeed in the west, learn to adapt to different cultures, and trust the people you've hired.

    * Okay benefits.

    Cons

    * Poor Executive/Senior/Mid level management.
    * Poor work culture
    * Very low pay

    Advice to Management

Claiming yourself as an American company. Do not go back and forth between Korean/American company at your convenience. Go to your office and see how many people work late hours. That means you need to hire more people.

    Pros

    Coworkers are very friendly
Good way to get industry experience

    Cons

    Unbelievable workload
    Understaffed
    Poor Atmosphere
Bosses don't listen to our complaints
Anti-minority attitudes expressed by some bosses
    The AC is broken

    Advice to Management

Realize that we as employees are human beings, not machines, and the ridiculous amount of stress being placed on a small number of us is NOT good policy. On top of this, direct more staff towards your flagging releases, hire more staff in general, release more content, provide a better level of customer communication and answer my flipping ticket please.

I have been working at NEXON full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -great coffee machine
-can be late often or not come in at all. They don't seem to have a policy for that, even if you are management.

    Cons

-Two year temporary positions for most, with very expensive benefits and only if you can afford and want them.
-No holiday pay, and forced to be off if you are temp.
-Bad company structure; they do not know what direction they want to lead the company to.
-The wrong people in the wrong positions, employees that are die hard being overworked to no end.
-Old vet employees that are reluctant to change.
-Company does not invest in resources for departments that need it.
-Does not care about their player base.
-They just want to know “How much more money they can make”, without a care in trying to fix their games and make them better for those that have spent the money already.
-Everyone looks unhappy, and people quit weekly.

    Advice to Management

Figure out what direction you want to take, remind your management or re-train on how to manage and be professional.
Pick up your company morale; a couple but almost no one seems happy to be there you wouldn’t think you work for a gaming company.
Invest in your customer service and those that help improve your online game stability.

  8. "Notably Unpleasant and Unreasonable"

I worked at NEXON as a contractor

    Pros

I'm not sure if they do anymore, but they had a bi-weekly happy hour (formerly weekly) with drinks and snacks. It was quite pleasant, but if you were on Maplestory forget it. They had too much work piled on them every single day to even be allowed partake in the company festivities. That's Nexon's employee appreciation in a nutshell.

    Cons

If you're thinking of working at Nexon you should know going in that they absolutely do not care about their employees. They take advantage of contract employees so they don't have to give them benefits and they pile on overtime regardless of if it's needed. They invent problems where there are none based solely on the now-president's whims (he "feels" like people are on Skype too much). I was pulled into a meeting and basically admonished for the notion that I might call out in the future because of a hypothetical burst pipe. If you think that sounds ridiculous, I agree. "A certain executive" was also concerned with how much time I was spending with the person I sat next to. It's honestly hard to convey the degree to which Nexon's poor management took things to a personal level. Even writing this review is difficult because the amount of petty slights directed at me were so frequent. On my first day the HR woman wouldn't even make eye contact with me and was completely unhelpful and dismissive, for literally no reason.

Managment spends their time on unimportant or invented nonsense instead of actually making things more efficient internally, or keeping the developers that make their games in check. Developers got away with absolutely anything, and QA had no choice but to take it. Developers would lie about sending builds, send incomplete/nonfunctional builds, and consistently miss deadlines or add content well after the agreed upon deadline. That was just business as usual.

    I worked at NEXON full-time

    Pros

    Decent Office
    Unlimited PTO policy
    Bi-weekly Happy Hour

    Cons

There was a time when a lot of western professionals were brought in to work on what was called "Nexon 2.0". Essentially a push to work with western talent to create games appealing to the western market. While the idea behind it was a welcomed and logical direction to go it ended up failing miserably. And the reason being is what is called the "Nexon Family Clan". There are several Korean people in key positions planted by other members of the "Family Clan" that are working way past their capabilities. They have no business sense, no empathy for players and no common sense either. What you would consider an acceptable quality standard for work is something that is way out of reach for many people there. And that creates a lot of emergent work leading to overtime and constant time pressure. If mistakes were made (which happens a lot due to their sheer lack of competence), the Family clan is trying to cover it up. If you point out mistakes for the sake of accountability or improvement you will instantly be made the enemy number 1. That means lies are being fabricated about your work while you are being back-stabbed from above. The sad part is that the "Family Clan" actually thinks that they are doing a world class job. Of course when you ask, they can't quantify or back anything up. So think about this company as the Trump regime - Just say words, make up lies, tell yourself everyday you are rock stars, it is always the fault of others and never yourself when something goes wrong, never question your boss and just do what he says. When you thought "Ok, this is probably the most stupid thing that ever happened at Nexon" you would always be surprised a week later with something coming up that was so stupid that nobody could make this up in their dreams. The appointment of the current GM (also part of the "Family Clan") resulted in a massive hit to the employee morale. In fact, many of the western professionals that were brought in to "fix" Nexon left in a hurry over the last few months as a result and I expect many more to leave as well.

Long story short - If you just want to collect a paycheck, are fine with mediocre being the new northstar and to never question what you are being told while seeing plenty of bias towards members of the "Family" clan...well, then this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

This company needs a full restart with all new management!

I have been working at NEXON full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are nice. There used to be happy hour events every 2 weeks but that hasn't happened in awhile. Benefits are good

    Cons

New president causing major upheaval. Recent cuts to almost all departments with no sense of future proofing for crunch later down the line. Most of management are incompetent and have no idea what they are doing. Many departments are so caught up with how they operate with themselves that they don't play nice with other departments which causes rushed low quality work, bad communication, stress for no reason, and confusion.
Most positions are paid much lower than many places in the industry.
Games are all sub part. One of the latest games released is actually a decade old in Korea. Parent company has no idea how to run live games in western market, relying on obvious borderline scam like microtransaction schemes.
Also, hard to move up the ladder without working way harder than your best effort as your peak best effort is expected by default at all times.
    Work life balance is terrible.

    Advice to Management

    None. Wouldn't listen anyway.

I have been working at NEXON full-time

    Pros

    Nice perks
    - Monthly Free Lunch
    - Sometimes Free Beer
    - Basketball Court (belongs to building not Nexon)

    Cons

Everything else is bad about Nexon. Unless you're ready for your job to be kissing up to specific people in management I advise to avoid this place like the plague. It rarely matters how well you do in the company, if you're not "in" with the right group of people you're not going to move up. Sadly because of this the right people are not in management. The company is known for setting up people to fail who do not follow the wishes of management, even if what management is doing is a bad idea. The company is constantly in organizational shifts, and due to this most employees are in on the joke that every 6 months Nexon will change. Making it in the western market could be easy for this company, if they actually focus on trying to make it here. There is a lot of talent and potential here, but it's wasted because the company seems to only want certain people to succeed.

People in the company are currently leaving in droves to look for better opportunities and for a company that will actually appreciate them.

    Advice to Management

You should listen to other ideas, rather than agreeing with each other on everything. You can't expect to succeed doing the same things that have been done for years. Focus on employees that are actually working hard, rather than your group of friends.
