I worked at NEXON full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team members that are passionate about the work and take care of each other.
They are trying to expand by getting more Western developed games.

    Cons

Controlled by Korean overlords both in Korea and in El Segundo.
What games to publish, game updates, and development are all heavily dictated by the whims of the Korean office and their higher ups.
Constant change in both upper management and organization/teams.
Commitment to Quality is a goal that is preached but rarely obtained. Its hard when a massive MMORPG has 1 or 2 QAs dedicated to it.
Compensation is not up to market for most positions. Not even close.

    Advice to Management

Empower your employees and help them step up/convince Korean developers to see the differences in Korean Market and North American Market.

    I worked at NEXON full-time

    Pros

Some decently talented people, though fewer each day
A place where a person can learn and do multiple jobs
    The base pay is good
    Nice office
    Fun co-workers
Good place for someone starting out in a career in games

    Cons

    Production schedules are too aggressive
    The game lineup is dated
Nexon has a negative reputation among gamers and the industry
Lack of institutional or learned knowledge transfer due to high turnover
Bad place to work for senior skilled people who want to advance into more prestigious companies
It has the same general issues that most games companies do that have a HQ in Asia. The people who are brought in to make Western business decisions are not empowered to make those decisions

    I worked at NEXON full-time

    Pros

    Decent Office
    Unlimited PTO policy
    Bi-weekly Happy Hour

    Cons

There was a time when a lot of western professionals were brought in to work on what was called "Nexon 2.0". Essentially a push to work with western talent to create games appealing to the western market. While the idea behind it was a welcomed and logical direction to go it ended up failing miserably. And the reason being is what is called the "Nexon Family Clan". There are several Korean people in key positions planted by other members of the "Family Clan" that are working way past their capabilities. They have no business sense, no empathy for players and no common sense either. What you would consider an acceptable quality standard for work is something that is way out of reach for many people there. And that creates a lot of emergent work leading to overtime and constant time pressure. If mistakes were made (which happens a lot due to their sheer lack of competence), the Family clan is trying to cover it up. If you point out mistakes for the sake of accountability or improvement you will instantly be made the enemy number 1. That means lies are being fabricated about your work while you are being back-stabbed from above. The sad part is that the "Family Clan" actually thinks that they are doing a world class job. Of course when you ask, they can't quantify or back anything up. So think about this company as the Trump regime - Just say words, make up lies, tell yourself everyday you are rock stars, it is always the fault of others and never yourself when something goes wrong, never question your boss and just do what he says. When you thought "Ok, this is probably the most stupid thing that ever happened at Nexon" you would always be surprised a week later with something coming up that was so stupid that nobody could make this up in their dreams. The appointment of the current GM (also part of the "Family Clan") resulted in a massive hit to the employee morale. In fact, many of the western professionals that were brought in to "fix" Nexon left in a hurry over the last few months as a result and I expect many more to leave as well.

Long story short - If you just want to collect a paycheck, are fine with mediocre being the new northstar and to never question what you are being told while seeing plenty of bias towards members of the "Family" clan...well, then this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

This company needs a full restart with all new management!

    Cons

    - High turnover: budget Cut / Laid off for most departments
    - Low Pay

I have been working at NEXON full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are nice. There used to be happy hour events every 2 weeks but that hasn't happened in awhile. Benefits are good

    Cons

New president causing major upheaval. Recent cuts to almost all departments with no sense of future proofing for crunch later down the line. Most of management are incompetent and have no idea what they are doing. Many departments are so caught up with how they operate with themselves that they don't play nice with other departments which causes rushed low quality work, bad communication, stress for no reason, and confusion.
Most positions are paid much lower than many places in the industry.
Games are all sub part. One of the latest games released is actually a decade old in Korea. Parent company has no idea how to run live games in western market, relying on obvious borderline scam like microtransaction schemes.
Also, hard to move up the ladder without working way harder than your best effort as your peak best effort is expected by default at all times.
    Work life balance is terrible.

    Advice to Management

    None. Wouldn't listen anyway.

    Pros

    Fun laid back environment.
    Great People.
    Great location and office.
    Fun games.

If you relate to the companies goals and work 110% and come in smiling you will love it here.

    Cons

Honestly have no complaints, I believe if anyone that is unhappy with their job did not try hard enough to be happy at their job. This being said sure there are hard times but you have to go above and beyond to be successful.

    Advice to Management

    Don't stop believing.

I have been working at NEXON full-time

    Pros

    Nice perks
    - Monthly Free Lunch
    - Sometimes Free Beer
    - Basketball Court (belongs to building not Nexon)

    Cons

Everything else is bad about Nexon. Unless you're ready for your job to be kissing up to specific people in management I advise to avoid this place like the plague. It rarely matters how well you do in the company, if you're not "in" with the right group of people you're not going to move up. Sadly because of this the right people are not in management. The company is known for setting up people to fail who do not follow the wishes of management, even if what management is doing is a bad idea. The company is constantly in organizational shifts, and due to this most employees are in on the joke that every 6 months Nexon will change. Making it in the western market could be easy for this company, if they actually focus on trying to make it here. There is a lot of talent and potential here, but it's wasted because the company seems to only want certain people to succeed.

People in the company are currently leaving in droves to look for better opportunities and for a company that will actually appreciate them.

    Advice to Management

You should listen to other ideas, rather than agreeing with each other on everything. You can't expect to succeed doing the same things that have been done for years. Focus on employees that are actually working hard, rather than your group of friends.
