Shift rota was complicated, always changing and didn't allow for child friendly working. Management structure was occasionally less than clear.

A great & dedicated service ruined by top dogs out for themselves
RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent attitude to doing a good job for the patients - nurses and dental nurses were always dedicated to helping the patients calling for help and advice. Always a joy to work with them. The senior Site Managers/SDMs/Performance Managers were good positions to have, although the culture and priorities depended on which site you were based.
Cons
The higher-up management attitude was atrocious. Staff off sick with cancer were treated like they were skiving off for a day's shopping, towards the end it was all about getting rid of as many people as possible to save costs. Although saying that, when some staff were so blatantly flouting the rules (not turning up for work, abusing internet, wrong patient advice etc.) the HR were very reluctant to take action, especially when unions were involved. If you kissed enough butt-cheeks you went far, but that means you have to give less than 2 hoots about the lives of patients and welfare of your nurses, and learn how to fiddle the stats properly (120% service levels?!) Nick Chapman paid little attention to the service's priorities, and the general opinion was that he was only in it to further his own career - as soon as he came on board the message was that he was going to shut it down, and look what happened. The stories I could tell you about the waste of money by the senior managers/directors would shock you!
