"NIIT: The worst place to work"

    Pros

    1. A good brand that established itself in the e-learning domain but has been losing it's hold continuously for the last 5 years.

    2. Excessive work pressure and system driven, you learn how to work within controls and challenges. Makes you tough.

    3. Best place to stay if you are good at manipulating things. You just need to be good at communicating and coming up with reasons for not doing a job and pointing out a person on which you can shift the blame.

    Cons

    1. A pathetic work culture. No work-life balance. No reward or recognition for smart work and excessive dedication. Your performance is judged by the number of hours you stay in office.

    2. There are several senior people in the organization who have been with NIIT for more than a decade (may be two decades). Most of these don't want new people to grow in the organization. Facts are manipulated and reports presented to the top management without any discussions at ground level.

    3. HR has minimum involvement or personal support to the employees. The HR function has no dignity and is thoroughly governed by whims and fancies of the senior management.

    4. For general employees, the annual salary raises are less than the inflation rate of the country. [Do note this doesn't apply to the senior employees and the management, seems like they eat away all the budget]. So, if you decide to join, negotiate the best at the time of joining.

    Advice to Management

Please frame a culture of skip level meetings and talk to people at ground level to know the realities. Don't be governed ONLY by what you say or hear from the Delivery Heads, Senior PMs or people who have been in the organization for several years.

    3. HR has minimum involvement or personal support to the employees.
    4. If you achieved more then 100% of your targets you will get increment of 10% of basic which would be Max. 400-1000 Rs.

I worked at NIIT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provided a tremendous amount of learning to me personally for the first 1.5 years of the 3 years in total. Has many well-intentioned people policies and facilities in comparison to most organizations in the market. The salary is ALWAYS paid on time.

    Cons

The management at NIIT, outside of the senior executive level, is its most significant area of weakness. This cannot be stressed enough that at this point of the company's history that is suffers from a hoard of immature and narrow minded supervisors who negate the presence of the exceedingly rare seasoned supervisor; one who is intelligent, calm, courteous and ultimately a team player.
The company has and continues to be held back owing to people in the management who hold senior positions by virtue of tenure as opposed to talent or perseverance. The organization also suffers from the presence of severe nepotism that hampers the morale of hard working and self-sacrificing employees.
Add to this, the extremely low levels of compensation and most of the dedicated work horses stack up enough cons to revisit their employment than invest too much of their professional life as part of the company.

    Advice to Management

The supervisors across the board from CEO - 4 levels are truly the bane of the company on this date. The management must see this.
Tremendous waves of talent are leaving/have left/will leave the organization because of incompetent, self-centred, uninspiring supervisors who must be re-evaluated.
No matter how often the management tells themselves that people are not leaving because of money, this is also not true. NIIT is , without exaggeration, a notoriously bad pay master and does not seem to be interested in correcting this image either.

The twin punches of bad middle & junior management combined with paltry compensation are soothed with a upper cut of nepotism. These issues are deeply entrenched tumours that have laid dormant for quite some time and are now wreaking havoc with a vengeance that hurts and disorients the Millenial generation that the company now looks to attract; millenials who have neither the patience nor fortitude, are spammed with opportunities elsewhere and will not think twice before projecting their ire all over the world wide web.

The focus of the company may rightfully be on sales and a formidable bottom line, but until such time these tasks are managed by some form of Artifical Intelligence, you will need people to further the company's ambition.
    Please do right by them.
