I have been working at NOMIS SOLUTIONS full-time

    Pros

1.) Great, hard-working coworkers who bring their full personalities to work every day.

2.) Get to solve real challenges for huge (household name) clients in the retail banking space.

3.) MUCH IMPROVED work culture. Gone are the days of poor documentation, black box decision-making, and a lack of individual accountability. Here to stay are processes that enforce transparency, track accountability, empower technical decision-making at the right level, and empower those willing to step up and take responsibility. Employees are now asked to do their homework, lay out all the options, and get buy-in on the best path forward before proceeding. Nothing revolutionary here – just a solid way to ensure the right decisions are being made.

4.) Fun office events and lots of perks (big pantry, free meals, ping pong, foosball, smoothies, fitness days, community service days, shuttle service to BART/Caltrain, etc.).

5.) Work from home policy is flexible and work-life balance is commendable.

6.) Many avenues to direct feedback. HR is great and if there is anything you want to share with the CEO you can schedule lunch with him. VPs and Managers (in my experience) are willing and able to talk with you about anything you have a concern about.

7.) The culture is young, but professional. Intellectual, but not elitist. A previous review mentioning an instance of sexism comes as a bit of a shock, as the office culture is not fratty.

8.) Everyone knows everyone and people give you the time of day.

9.) Communication of the product vision has gotten much better in recent times and the future looks exciting.

10.) The work is incredibly challenging. Nothing is easy. Client data systems are complicated, the analytics are not trivial, user testing is challenging to carry out, clients have extensive documentation requirements, sales cycles are very long, and debugging software written years ago can cause headaches. The work is not for the faint of heart, but nor is it impossible. People who ask questions, have an eagerness to learn, work well in teams, are ambitious with what they want to get out of their career, and are looking for a challenging but fulfilling experience do well here.

    Cons

The company has progressed leaps and bounds in the past few years on its pivot from a consulting-centric financial services company to a hybrid enterprise software / SaaS business. The journey is not completely over, but Nomis is very much on its way. A pivot of that magnitude has inevitably rubbed some the wrong way, especially as the work culture has had to change to foster the productivity levels required to scale the product and business sufficiently.

1.) Not everyone at the company understands what it means to build a truly scalable, sustainable, and profitable business. Not everyone who left did either. This lack of understanding has led to disagreements in the past on focus and priority. Better communication and reinforcement from the top that the new culture is what is needed to get the stock price to where we all want it to be is important for keeping everyone motivated.

2.) As is common with enterprise software companies, there is a natural resource trade-off between supporting existing customers and building future software. In the past, there were times when the future was not considered as heavily as it should have been, and the effects of this are being felt today in some cases. As such, this has meant not everyone has been happy with how they have had to spend a portion of their time. Management has become more aware and sympathetic of this recently, but it is nonetheless still a reality of working at Nomis.

3.) Nomis software is critical to decision-making for our clients. As such, they have high demands, and it has sometimes been challenging to ensure complete client understanding and satisfaction. Flying executive clients to the Nomis office to meet and greet the folks doing the work has been a tremendous help recently, but more should be done to articulate the exact reasons why Nomis is valuable to each of them (as there are many clients and this tends to differ by client).

    Advice to Management

Keep encouraging, supporting, and reinforcing the new work culture. Acknowledge the people who are leading the charge on this.

Be realistic about the path forward. The growth targets are sizable, though achievable if the right focus is given to perform the work needed. Too many distractions via ad-hoc work, though useful for this year’s financials, have a chance of hurting long term growth by slowing down the building of future revenue-generating products. Obviously there is a balance that must be reached, but continue to question whether or not we are where we should realistically be on this.

    Cons

    - Breaking away from the pull of the past takes time, effort, and the right people
    - B2B SaaS in Banking can be a challenge as large clients tend to want control - not for the faint of heart!

I worked at NOMIS SOLUTIONS full-time

    Pros

For the size of the company, Nomis has good benefits (not salary or bonus though!) The teams are awesome and have frequent happy hours, outdoor events and such. The CEO is awesome and the product is super complex and technical allowing you to improve your skill set in a fast paced environment.

    Cons

Pay sucks and the hierarchy is weird with managers having only one employee reporting to them, Lots of Directors doing nothing and Product managers that suck at defining the product future. It is a really top heavy company and most of the people who stayed there building it are either leaving for better jobs or are let go. New hires get paid more than key people and they are really vague on the direction of the company.
The company is so focused on a few key clients that they bleed money on them. Lost out on a lot of other customers because the focus was not right. Outdated technology stack is also slowing progress.

    Advice to Management

The management needs to identify people who actually perform and get rid of the smart talkers that do nothing. Provide better information on the stock options and stop wasting options on people that don't perform! Recruitment sucks and I have seen non-Engineers interview candidates for engineering roles as well as devOps people interviewing data scientists!

    Pros

Collaborative culture, solving interesting problems, great customers. Nomis drives value for its customers and that shows in their customer relationships and high contract renewal rate.

    Cons

The politics can be overwhelming. The leadership team is not consistently aligned, creating challenges around strategic planning and prioritization. While positive, the rapid growth has created some strain on the culture but there is a concerted effort to address that challenge.

    Cons

Rapidly-changing objectives create uncertainty and stress.

    Advice to Management

Continue to embrace change and manage the inevitable chaos it brings.

I have been working at NOMIS SOLUTIONS full-time

    Pros

Nomis is growing fast and has a lot of momentum and some great customers who see real value in what we are doing. There is a lot of intellectual stimulation and variety and really smart people to work around. The company gives an allowance for training and personal development which is cool and has free lunches, a fun committee and a busy but informal work environment.

    Cons

The company is growing fast and the processes have not yet caught up so it can feel a little chaotic at times and people can easily get overwhelmed if they are not disciplined with their time.

    Advice to Management

Keep focusing on making hard decisions and motivating people and being disciplined about what Nomis should and shouldn't do. Be patient when changing direction - it often takes longer than management thinks to change.

I have been working at NOMIS SOLUTIONS full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with really bright people from all over the world and walks of life makes for a learning environment on several fronts. Nomis has big dreams and smart people who are passionate about getting there together. Can feel like a big family and leadership seems quite committed to assimilating new team members by engaging in and funding education and external trainings, fun outings, and happy hours. Management is receptive to feedback, client base is very strong, work life balance is respected and continuing to innovate - definitely a rare blend.

    Cons

Hyper-growth, while exciting, it comes with challenges as it comes with some pain and takes adjusting. While the kitchen is fully stocked, lunches more than once a week would be nice.

    Advice to Management

Stay hungry, continue to lead and navigate through the obstacles that come with rapid growth. Over-communicate as change can feel turbulent while exciting. Please continue to keep that two-week shutdown intact during the holiday season, it is a cherished Nomis tradition.

Product provides great ROI and customers love Nomis. Lots of market potential. Growing rapidly with new office space, new hires, great vibe.

    Cons

Growing pains, would like more access to senior management.
