    Pros

You can learn a lot if you work for the right manager. You can work from home or have a flexible schedule as needed. Work/life balance is very good, not a place where people work long hours.

    Cons

Most managers are not very well trained and are not good at developing people. Very little room for advancement, unless you play the game. Bonus amounts are very low and getting lower, especially if you work in certain areas

    Advice to Management

HR and Training teams need to improve and need to be more open to feedback. Judge people on their work and stop playing favorites. Listen to your staff and to your clients, they are trying hard to give you feedback but you don't listen to anyone but yourselves.

    Pros

Salary is very good. Allowed to work from home when necessary.

    Cons

Management has been at NPD to long. They have no idea how the outside world works

    Advice to Management

Take a look at how your products are being used vs. forcing clients to use them only your way

I worked at NPD (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company has a strong balance sheet and is highly profitable with loyal customers (mostly large consumer brands) and they have very little competition.

    Cons

Little to no product innovation. Senior management is highly political and tone deaf to their markets and the employees. They run the company with no vision and no regard for the employees (who are mostly "meh", since the really good people have come and gone). The CEO, CFO, and President are surrounded by a mediocre team of highly paid execs that have been trained to never express an original idea. It doesn't really matter, since they don't have any competition. If they did, they would already be out of business.

    Advice to Management

    Retire!

    Pros

NPD has a few pros. Salary is OK. A few decent coworkers. Good PTO. That is about all there is.

    Cons

Direct managers focus only on themselves and ignore their direct reports needs. Information is not passed along. You will be told they have your back, but, then toss you under a bus first chance they get.

    Advice to Management

Learn ho to communicate with the people under you. Also learn how to recognize individuals for their contributions instead of giving credit to those who do not deserve it.

I worked at NPD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work/life balance isn't horrible. Job security is good. Pay is good for a starting job (once established, other jobs are much better).

    Cons

There are people that are too set in their ways. Younger staff is divided into cliques, which makes for a "high school mentality". Overtime is not compensated (you cannot always anticipate overtime and they won't pay you to get things done). There is a strong division between skill sets between the younger generation and the older employees. When you're fresh out of college and you have to teach your boss how to use basic functions in powerpoint, it is a little unnerving.

    Advice to Management

Skills training for every level to keep employees on point are a necessity. Older staff should challenge the younger staff with more responsibilities (overlooked of course) and provide real feedback to show what is needed for advancement.

I worked at NPD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance, good reputation for quality of research, laid back environment, nice people for the most part

    Cons

Politics run rampant; difficult to advance past manager level; pay is not very competitive; too many silos of knowledge - ineffective intraorganizational processes; management has a strong tendency to play favorites with employees

    Advice to Management

the growth in scope of research coverage you are successfully pursuing is coming at the cost of effectiveness within certain industries you cover
