I have been working at NPD (More than 8 years)

    Pros

in my role flexibility, good colleagues and peers, benefits are good. there isnt much more i can but i need to write a 20 word minimum

    Cons

constantly fire fighting, layoffs in US offices continually, training is negligible, expectation to do whatever necessary to get results so that work at nights, weekend and during the weekend is standard, constantly changing corporate goals and trying new org models that dont really work out

    Advice to Management

invest in people and not try to change the organisation constantly just to get a better bottom line at any cost

I worked at NPD full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

NPD has a good reputation in the retail industry due to long-standing relationships with both manufacturers and retail channels.

    Cons

NPD is very siloed by the different industries (i.e., consumer technology, food service, toys, etc.); people rarely interact with anyone in other departments even though they may sit next to each other. It's not a very cordial work environment.

    Advice to Management

Encourage employees to interact even if their jobs don't require it. Say hello or good morning!

I have been working at NPD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Traditionally there has been a good work life balance with the ability to work from home or set up flexible hours.

The company seems to finally be focusing its resources on infrastructure and research sciences.

    Cons

There is a tremendous amount of time wasted on administrative tasks. Rather than focusing on servicing clients we have to update daily, monthly, and ad-hoc status reports for senior management.

    Advice to Management

Do not take away corporate work life balance benefits. That is one of the only things this company has going for it.

    Pros

Smart people, interesting work for some of the brands and retailers we all buy & shop at.

    Cons

So political. Constant tug of war at the top, and senior management just want to make sure their piece of the pie is intact. No true sense of one corporate identity. Pay is subpar.

    Advice to Management

You have smart people there, figure out ways to keep them motivated.

    Pros

Good co-workers. Laid back atmosphere. Good amount of personal days.

    Cons

Moderate pay. Not many chances for advancement. Deadlines can be tough. Seems females get more promotions

    Advice to Management

More employee recognition. Take employees advice more often. Pitch in more often.

I worked at NPD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The work was very interesting. Opportunity to work with top companies on a variety of industries. Friendly environment.

    Cons

There were inconsistencies in HR policies (work from home, flexible schedule, etc) even within the same department/manager.

New hires compensated more generously than existing employees at the same or more senior level. Loyal employees taken for granted.

I worked at NPD as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Got to learn about the company and all the departments within it. Got to really know the Beauty industry, which is the team I worked closely with.

    Cons

Wish I was given more real work experience.

    Advice to Management

Give the Summer Associates more respondsibilty if you can.

    Pros

Smart people, colleagues are great and for the most part very interested in what they're doing. Still has a small company feel despite growth

    Cons

So political all the way from the top level to the middle management. Pay scale is at the bottom end of the industry

    Advice to Management

Focus on the rank and file. Severe case of too much middle management with no one to manage

I worked at NPD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are opportunities to move into various roles to gain cross functional experience.
A good place if you like financial analysis and working with technology.

    Cons

Hard to get promoted beyond Account Management. Numerous client complaints about data quality issues, Pos discrepancies, consumer-POS trends not aligning.

    Advice to Management

Hire customer service reps to handle client complaints.

I worked at NPD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of development and growth 15 years ago. Lots of internal training offered, approachable managers, encouragement to be empowered and move around the company.

    Cons

Cant get themselves in current times, to much change without fully thinking things through. Lots of guess work for senior level. Change is great but need to think it through first.

    Advice to Management

Work-life balance used to be much better for employees. Need a better handle on senior management and how they handle letting people go. I was let go on false reasons after being promoted, receiving above company average increases, after above average reviews. So why not offer me to move to different division or give me time to prepare, after 15+ years i deserve better.
