I worked at NPD full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Strong company, transparency into company results and goals, plenty of new learning opportunities, great mid-level management, enjoyable + bright peers

    Cons

Transitions in leadership and processes - growing pains could be felt at all levels. Lack of satellite/work from home options (since corrected, I believe).

    Advice to Management

Firm up executive decisions and new processes before scheduling meetings with lower level staff members - it often felt like the team was called into meetings just to listen as leadership continued hashing things out.

    I worked at NPD full-time

    Pros

Access to interesting data. Exposure to high-level personnel at client businesses. Opportunity to consult with clients and create presentations for C-level clients. Easy to get promoted if you work hard and your supervisors like your work. Lots of educational opportunity.

    Cons

Dubious data methodology. Rigid culture without much organizational creativity or progressiveness. Pettiness in some departments that harms team dynamics.

    Advice to Management

Fire incompetent people more often. Promote teamwork, trust, and mutual support.

    Pros

Exposure to many clients across many industries.
Good stepping stone to network with great brands and move on.
Every other week half day Friday during the summer

    Cons

Extremely political. Very top heavy with multiple layers of legacy who play puppet in order to remain a part of the out dated retention program. Little to no growth for hard workers who opt out of kissing up to the ivory tower.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and treating employees like children.

I worked at NPD (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Smart people, interesting work for some of the brands and retailers we all buy & shop at.

    Cons

So political. Constant tug of war at the top, and senior management just want to make sure their piece of the pie is intact. No true sense of one corporate identity. Pay is subpar.

    Advice to Management

You have smart people there, figure out ways to keep them motivated.

I have been working at NPD full-time

    Pros

You get to work with VPs and GMMs of the company closer than any other analytical role elsewhere. The level of work you do really makes an impact.

    Cons

Lower visibility than people that work in HQ, and smaller team, but that could be a plus too if you have a great relationship with your boss

Work/Life balance can be tough sometimes

    Advice to Management

Retain top talent by promoting those who deserve it. Understand the importance of younger talent.

    Pros

They deal with interesting clients, and you get to do some cool work - in terms of predicting business for them and showing them where their opportunities lie for the future.

    Cons

Office culture was a tad bit boring, but no terrible - there was free coffee so that's always good.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work of pushing for growth and allowing people to thrive.

I have been working at NPD full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flex hours, you can work remotely, good 401k plan - although it does take awhile to get the full benefit
    Good resume builder

    Cons

A lot of meetings - where the owner talks for awhile, wastes time, especially during time-sensitive work times.
Benefits are way expensive. 170$/month for full benefits for a single person
    Micromanaged a lot
Expected to work nights and weekends (main reason to leave)
    Absolutely zero growth potential
Also, my company president told me this one, (had a promotion with zero raise) Todd Johnson doesn't like to give out big raises- so while my work load doubled, I only got a 1500/yr raise

    Advice to Management

I get you want to keep employees informed, but a lot of times we have deadlines, set in place by management, and we don't have time to sit there and listen to Todd Johnson/Karyn talk for 3 hrs.
Also, don't be afraid to give your employees a raise with a promotion- this is currently why I'm looking elsewhere
