    Pros

Underperformance by some colleagues makes one look great. Downside is, its tough working with so many slackers.
    Good learning and development.
    Good location.

    Cons

Poor finance senior leadership and no objectivity.
Lack of diversity at the top is resulting in no real chaĺlenge and innovation.
Promotion can be based on if your face fits.
Open and fair recuitment within finance is not reality for me - it actually feels like its all orchestrated by senior management.

    Advice to Management

Start to add some real value - demand better performance and display good leadership.
    Don't tolerate underperformance.
Reward and promote good performance including diversity.

    I worked at NS&I full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance with some very nice people working there. Job security, somewhere to retire if you want one job for life.

    Cons

Bullying, poor progression inside the company, found the toilets were not left in a good condition on a few occasions, kitchen facilities were not sufficiant in terms of space and quality.

    Advice to Management

More work could be done to address the issues above by addressing management methods and strategies.

I worked at NS&I as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Good easy Mon-Fri hours at 36 hours a week.

    Cons

Never being accepted as part of the team, because being a member of an agency. Really bad management in this place. The favourites in the office can and do get away with almost anything. And nothing will be said to them by management.
When I was very there I witnessed sexual harassment from a manager to a junior member of female staff. Staff swearing in the office and management turning a blind ear to it all. Having a radio playing throughout the office and people singing along to the songs. Really putting you off your work.
Unable to concentrate on your work and if errors creep in you are branded a disgrace. But the office in East Kilbride was a really toxic environment.
Agency staff given no feedback on the job they were doing and then dismissed on a Friday night after you had left the office by the management.Because they can do this and can get away with it.
Too many full time staff who had been there for over 25-30 years who were deadwood and just hanging around for their pensions. And not doing their fair share of the work.

    Advice to Management

Treat all people with respect .Stop the swearing in the office and turn of that radio and fire the deadwood. In a professional organisation funded by public funds there is no need to have a radio blaring all day and every day.Unbelievable.

    Pros

Good work life balance with some very nice people working there. Job security, somewhere to retire if you want one job for life.

    Cons

Poor pay compared to private sector. Bullying and harassment seems to be the norm with board members trying to hide the fact and sweep it under the carpet. The same women has won employee of the year problem most years. If your face fits, you will easily get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing bullying and harassment to be acceptable. Stop praising the same individuals every year! The board needs a big shake up with some redundancies at board level! I hope the new CEO does something about this culture.

I have been working at NS&I full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There is definately a family feel as the head office is a small. Management are supportive of training and accept that staff tunover is quite high as people get their exeperience and move on to higher paying jobs, in the regulated sector. However, flexible working, generous annual leave and pensions do make it worthwhile sticking around.

    Cons

Being a civil service organisation, there is a fair bit of 'dead wood' and poor performance is not handled well. Additionally lots of red tape and salaries are only paid at 85% of the market median for the role.
