I have been working at NTH Consultants full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Its an employee owned company so after a while you can buy into the company. When you are in the office you basically can set your own hours. Yearly reviews tend to get you promotions for the first few years. They are on top of all the safety trainings you could possibly need.

    Cons

Although you are getting promotions it's merely a title change. You will tend to be doing the same things you were doing with few to no new responsibilities. There is an aging management that cannot afford to retire so don't think you will be getting into management in the next 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Your doing a pretty good job to be honest it's a great company to work for but if you are totally honest with yourselves anyone over 65 should really retire especially the ones of that age that are still in the field everyday. They physically can't meet the demands of the job and they can't keep up with the speed of technology changes. Also invest in your IT dept.

I worked at NTH Consultants full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay rate, insurance and vacation policy are all very competitive. The smaller size of the firm allows for different types of project. It is a good place to look for new graduates looking to cut their teeth in engineering.

    Cons

The focus of the firm and in which arenas that they compete seems to be lacking in some areas. The firm as a whole suffers from a lack of communication and poorly defined separation of duties, leading to the inevitable circular finger pointing when a project progresses poorly. It is definitely not a firm that encourages new ideas and methods. Turnover is high and the firm prefers inexpensive, young recruits and throw...

    Advice to Management

Management should take coursework in fostering lines of communication and work to build confidence in the firm, both internally and externally.

I have been working at NTH Consultants

    Pros

The management is very hands off - they trust their employees to get work done without micromanaging them, but will offer guidance as needed. There is not a lot of red tape in order to get something new implemented - if you have a new idea you are encouraged to give it a try.

    Cons

Nothing negative to share at this time

    I worked at NTH Consultants

    Pros

NTH provides exposure to large and interesting projects on the engineering and inspection sides; relaxed environment with average to above average pay; hands off management style allows for independent work; positive relationships between coworkers and contractors; and mostly positive public reputation.

    Cons

Poor maintenance of equipment; poor communication across all levels; non responsive and surprisingly over staffed human resources; do not own enough vehicles for construction staff and require personal vehicle use

    Advice to Management

None; this company continues to succeed contrary to my expectations.

I have been working at NTH Consultants full-time

    Pros

Friendly offices and direct communication with management. Large amounts of growth recently with consistent and exciting work. Ability to move between groups for different projects and room to move vertically in the company. Management always looking for new projects and areas of engineering to move into if you have experience. Good insurance coverage and costs with 401K matches (match depending on profitability).

    Cons

Small geographic footprint which can limit ability to move for families if you want to stay. While there is direct communication it can be sparse for some projects. No bonuses for certain health package (no HSA deposit if you select a HDHP). Feels below average or just at average for base pay but this may be due to the lack of information on engineering salaries in general (a very taboo thing to talk about).
