I have been working at NTT full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If working under Japanese, able to gain exposure to Japanese working culture and methodology

    Cons

Poor benefits. Easily 40% below market rate.
Local top mgmt weakest link. Lack leadership, professionalism and competency. Not MNC quality.
Does not invest in employees. Left to figure things out by themselves.
Poor company values. CEO openly having affair with staff and gets special privileges incl promotion.

    Advice to Management

Your local top mgmt is not capable of managing the company.
The working level staff, the backbone of your company will suffer.

I have been working at NTT full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Advantage of working with some talented/ down to earth characters, who are unfortunately all being taken for a ride

The Location. although it is due to change to somewhere cheaper by 2015

    Cons

Lack of flexibility: little or NO working from home, expect to be monitored on EVERYTHING from what time you come in to how long you spend in the bathroom..

Handholding: Expect to never use your own initiative, whas the point when you HAVE TO follow all the rules set by above (tokyo)

VERY japan centric culture - NO compatibility for Europeans. VERY difficult environment and odd work ethic

    Advice to Management

Address employee concerns and issues properly, not just by having a " if you dont like it, then leave" attitude.
Provide more freedom of ideas and opinions. stop relying on rules and regulations which stops creativity.
Allow employees to be in charge of their own working structures, provide a more trusting approach

    Pros

    Paycheck. Location. Enjoyed my team.

    Cons

HR does not care about you. Employees who are full time have to worry about the project ending and being put on the bench which won't last long until he/she is let go. No flexibility. Little to no opportunity for advancement. Unorganized. Have to answer to more than one manager about the same issues (think Office Space). Your coworkers are looking for a new job as well.

    Advice to Management

    Relax.

    Pros

well, NTT is a big telco, if i am not wrong, it should be the biggest telco in Asia. Their IP / MPLS coverage is very strong in Asia, and O. k coverage for the U S and Europe region. Able to get some exposure to big projects, on the design, deliverable, and maintenance.

    Cons

The culture is very political and unfortunately a bureaucratic approach of working. There is red tapes everywhere. It is very hard to climb the corporate ladder or have the same empowerment. There are many processes involved just to get things done, of which it is really frustrating.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the ground level more and be more open to feedbacks

    Pros

    - Your work hard will keep you a secure job
    - Company has very strong financial status as held by Japanse government

    Cons

    - Good result doesnot mean good evaluation
    - local employees have less career opportunity comparing with Japanese ones

    Advice to Management

Management should give equal career oppotunity also to local employees, listen more to their voices.
Sit in one's heart not on one's head, please.
