MIssed opportunities abound; Management is poor; No career path
May 12, 2016 - in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Excellent PTO, free parking, good work/life balance (depends on manager), autonomous working environment, good energy amongst staff, decent pay if you are a new hire; work from home or remote is available depending on job description; good environmental programs
Cons
Insurance package and pay has gone downhill; lack of productivity across the business due slackers, constant changes and poor financial decisions; bad upper management structure and blatant favoritism; HR needs to be leveled and re-hired with qualified staff; no career development or growth pathing; org does not exhibit their own values; zero integrity; CEO is an old dog who needs to retire; job titles are given out like candy and not earned;

Great Company. Continually Impressed
Aug 23, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great location (downtown Portland with easy access to transit), Great benefits (medical, dental, vision) + flex pay per check + 6 weeks paid time off + free transit pass + free parking + masseuse on staff, great work/life balance, strong leadership, open communication, growth opportunities, diversity (race/ethnicity, LGBT equality, gender), down to earth management, gym on site, flexible hours, opportunities to work from home, great team building activities/parties, great business plan, intelligent leaders / employees, great future outlook
Cons
Better benefits for spouses/families, equal pay for equal work within equal positions, equality privileges across teams within a department (work from home)

Organization & Leadership?
Jul 19, 2016 - Software QA Engineer in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The QA team with which I worked consisted of extremely helpful and affable people. I really enjoyed working with all of them. The team lead is a dynamic, knowledgeable, and very helpful person. I liked her a great deal. The Senior developer is a wonderful person. Free instant oatmeal and really great hot chocolate. I would really like to have been an FTE employee.
Cons
Constant restructuring resulted in my contract being cut short; two-and-a-half months of a six month contract. At least I got a weeks notice. Management is so disorganized as to be non-existent. The manager I reported to spoke with me twice: my second day where she told me that I could not work from home and sometime during my last week with a 'thanks for your work' flavor. Parking in the building's garage is restricted to 'real' employees only. As is often the plight of the person doing on-site work the feeling of exclusion was quite obvious and uncomfortable. I would not work there as a contractor again.

Pros
Good people, good wage and benefits - until they were sold. Still work from home though.
Cons
Everything at this point - would not recommend, bad benefits and paid very little with seemingly no opportunity to grow anymore.

Ability to work from home
Cons
Difficult to move up to a different role
- Current Contractor★★★★★
Pros
Great people. Great work. This is a company where people do care about the mission, but in a grounded way, rather than being over top with slogans or trite gestures. The benefits for FTEs also look great.
Cons
This is an older company with a more traditional mindset. If you want to drain the barrel of kombucha and ride around the office on a skateboard, this is probably not the place for you, but with work from home, that doesn't matter much.

Good for the most part.

Great time off and work balance. Work from home two days a week. The office is nice, too.
Cons
Managers are inconsistent in giving promotions. Expectations for growth are not clear. Few employees of color.

Content Specialist
Mar 25, 2018 - Content Specialist in Portland, ORRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work that I am passionate about. Good benefits. Allowed to work from home two days a week.
Cons
Path for growth not clearly articulated. Salary compression within the Content Specialist jobs and inequitable pay. Many colleagues lack assessment experience outside of NWEA.
