    Negative Outlook

I worked at NYC Department of Human Resource Administration full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

. As such a large agency, a lot of agency policies and procedures are available via agency intranet, etc. It is up to the employee to pursue to know and understand the agency rules and employee rights, etc. . If management likes you, there is room for job stability and growth. . The seasoned staff are more aware of how to "go along to get along", because they've seen a lot, etc.

    Cons

    1) The Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) Program is insane from top down. If starting at this agency/ program as a probationary staff (civil service) it is very risky. Ultimately your job depends if your supervisor/director likes you or not. 2) Too many tasks expected for level of job title/ compensation, especially for supervisors. Work overload given as normal practice. Can lead to stress, low morale, and negativity in the workplace environment. 3) Stressful work environment, with unrealistic expectations from upper management (i.e. project timeframes). 4) Disconnect between knowledge of agency commissioner and executive directors (i.e. black n white view), and how the work really goes (complex cases, grey areas).
