I worked at Na Hoku full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked at Na Hoku on Oahu, but far one of the best companies to work fo (especially on the north shore) Employees are valued, given great incentives, commission allows you to double even triple your pay , the more you sell the more you make

My manager was one of the best I've had ever

    401k matching, 2 days off a week

    Cons

Because it's sales, it can get competitive with team members, monthly personal & store quotas like any other sales job (not necessarily a con)

I worked at Na Hoku full-time

    Pros

Higher commission rate than most jewelry stores.

    Cons

Same base pay as new associates. No raises. Up system is used by associates only. Store manager will take your up if you are not standing right next to them.

    Advice to Management

Store meetings are twice a month and pointless for newbies.

    Pros

Small company where you have the potential to have an impact.

    Cons

The department heads and stores are like petulant children that treat others like garbage unless they get their way.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more internal support for employees.

I worked at Na Hoku full-time

    Pros

President and COO very involved in product development.
For the most part the corp world is very welcoming and warm.

    Cons

No real training or standards, which could not necessarily be considered a con if you're the type of person who likes to learn on the fly

    Pros

I enjoy working for the company and love the jewelry, and that it is a small family organization. The customers, for the most part are great and the people I work with are awesome. The 401k is awesome and the benefits are good. The pay with commission is fair.

    Cons

The Manager. This manager does not have a clue how to handle people. The manager is very good at following company policies and procedures. However, does not know how to motivate or recognize you for a good job. We all enjoy working there when the manager is not there and dread it when the manager arrives. You never know what kind of mood this person will be in. The only time this manager talks to you is when it is bad, never a compliment. When the manager has not met their sales goal this person will intrude into your sale so that you end up having to split the sale. If you question anything, especially the schedules, you are retaliated against and the next month your schedule is worse. The manager feels that we live to work at the managers discretion and not allowed to have a life unless it fits into the store schedule. You can not plan anything in your off time until after the schedule comes out. If you ask for a certain day off, you are punished by having to work 8-10 days between days off.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to talk in confidence to HR and the District Manager without the conversation getting back to the manager, which has happened in out store.

I have been working at Na Hoku full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Positive work environment
    Generous employee discount
    Affordable benefit package
    Excellent 401k match
    Rewarding bonus options
Management is almost always promoted from within
    Supportive upper management
You feel like family rather than just another face or number

    Cons

Negative employees are often given too many chances to become professional and positive members of the sales team. Lazy and self-entitled employees can really drag everyone down and make work feel like a kindergarten classroom. This is not a direct reflection of Na Hoku but rather that of some inexperienced managers who keep energy zapping employees too long.

    Advice to Management

Don't let the bad apples stick around too long!

I have been working at Na Hoku full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, fun environment (at times) , not a pushy sales approach , nice customers, potential for opportunities within the company, success depends mostly on you, family company, beautiful stores, unique jewelry , chance to learn about Hawaiian culture, easy to relocate, management listens to your ideas, team work encouraged

    Cons

Too much upper management protection for crappy managers, they need to realize not everyone was born to lead and find someone who is. Customer issues and employee issues can get swept under the rug. HR dept seems to not know their job well, they keep nothing confidential from your manager and dont know state laws. Schedules can be unfair depending on your manager. Gossip can get out of control. Pettiness is a theme

    Advice to Management

Please stop being in denial that some of these managers are in fact , terrible...
