I have been working at Nakisa full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Located in heart of downtown, the best about Nakisa is its people. Most people are smart, courteous, helpful and joy to work with. Fast pace dynamic work environment that provides learning opportunities but brings in instability as everything is changing constantly from product to processes to customers.

    Cons

Below average benefits. Not much compensation for challenging tasks and extra work.
Nothing much for employees to stick long term with company.

    Advice to Management

You have some good products and serious potential of sales. So encourage your sales department to employ aggressive strategy for getting customers.
Take care of your key people at least who had given decades to company. Invest in their careers (by providing training/courses) and in their future (provide some retirement funds, group plans etc.)

I have been working at Nakisa full-time

    Pros

    Great enterprise culture
    Adequate work-life balance
    Comprehensive management regarding time-off
Some great talent within the company
    Downtown Montreal
Product has the potential to grow and improve drastically

    Cons

Breakfast is free, but bagels and bread needs to be refreshed more often.
The company lacks structure, planning and control over projects and changes in the enterprise.
R&D is king of the mountain there and restrain the proper expansion of the company.
Major employees retention problems, they need to keep their talent.
    Training can be improved

    Advice to Management

Put a proper structure and foundation in place, and stick to it.
Change the culture, define your company mission and base all your decisions on core values.
Spend more on R&D, they are restraining your growth capacity (better resources, not always go for the cheap labor).
Be demanding and apply a tighter control and quality over operations.
Align departments better, so they work together properly.

    Mar 27, 2015 – Director of HR

As a result of growth, Nakisa has experienced a time of rapid change. With change comes great opportunities but also a need to adapt. In recent months, we have welcomed some of Montreal’s top talent ... More

    Pros

+ Interesting product and underlying tech
    + Good location
    + People

    Cons

    - No development past the 1 or 2 year mark
    - Sense of mediocrity; no 'A' game

    Advice to Management

Great place to get a start in either Development or Services. Not such a great place to stick around in after you've gained some experience (2 years). If you stay you won't develop.

In Development, expect to work on front end JS / XML / HTML unless you're half decent in which case they let you in to work on their Java core framework.

In Services the projects are quick installations of org charting and talent management software. The clients are all over the globe. You can expect to get sent to places like Brazil, Australia, and interact with some large companies and public sector organizations.

However because of limited growth potential and inexperience in management, for those of you who want to give to and receive more from their career, you will need to go somewhere else. This is everything but on a small scale. Good luck to you and Nakisa!

I worked at Nakisa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-The best thing about Nakisa is the people who work there. They are friendly and help you a lot.
    - Very friendly, hand in code managers. Chris & Albert are great managers to work with. They will support their team 100%.
    - The location is down town Montreal, McGill Collage.

    Cons

    - More work in XML, XSL than Java. As a software developer you may expect to work with Java but mostly it is configuration.
    - It is more like a family business. The head of HR is CEO's sister, Head of IT, QA, Finance & Support is CEO's brother. Working with him is hard & he doesn't have knowledge for technical decisions that he make.
    - No pension plan.
    - Limited insurance.
    - I would only recommend this company for the first job.

    Advice to Management

I don't think your brother has enough knowledge for the decisions he make.

    Advice to Management

Be more competetive in employee benefits. Retain your employees instead of hiring new one to whom you dont even know.

    Pros

    - Very good for those who are starting a career, expecially in consulting
    - services side offers a lot of diversity in projects and customers
    - you gain very good experience and have chances of going up (to a certain extent)
    - travel is good (if you like to go to new places)
    - some people are cool to work with

    Cons

    - on average, employees are paid below industry standard
    - products do not have a strong foundation. Being a product company, they dont invest enough in architecture and invest more in rapid development.
    - leaders are not qualified. company needs to recycle some of the leadership positions. Some have never worked elsewhere in their careers. you cannot grow a company with that
    - there is no clear vision or path. Things change all the time. there are no standards or benchmarks or philosophies that are followed
    - no bonuses
    - bare minimal benefits.

    Advice to Management

    Change leadership team
    Build better products
