    "Great Technology"

I have been working at Nanometrics (Less than a year)

    Pros

Leader in metrology tools around the globe with highky desirable optical capabilities.

    Cons

Meeting shipment schedules, as always, is a push at the end of each quarter - but nothing unusual for this industry.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and produce!

I worked at Nanometrics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is nothing I can say positive about the company. If you would like to maintain your emotional well-being I suggest to keep searching for jobs or choose KLA-Tencor which is clearly the market leader in Semiconductor metrology tool technology.

    Cons

    1. Negative Employees - Employees do not like company. Most are here because no one else would hire them or because they need a company to sponsor them for a work visa.
    2. Negative Management - Most of management is abusive to employees. They have a chip on their shoulder that seriously needs to be knocked off. If this company was located in a country such as Russia that chip would have been quickly knocked off.
    3. Low or non existing bonus - When hired they mention the great profit sharing that you will be able to partake in. If you look at the history of the company in the last few years they rarely make a quarterly profit. When they do make a profit you will be lucky to receive anything significant.
    4. No opportunity for advancement
    5. The products are low quality - Tools are shipped to customers either unclean or with noticeable defects just to meet deadlines which typically are never met.

    Advice to Management

Resign and let someone who respects and admires employees take your position.

    Pros

    Dynamic environment.
Get to move from project to project often and learn new things.
Get to work with people from multiple departments, easy to see "the large picture".
Decent amount of independence. Can take on and handle projects as I see fit.
    Decent health plan.

    Cons

Hard to get promoted or get a raise.
Gaining visibility at the lower levels is difficult.
Besides health plan, no real perks for employees. No food provided, no transportation deals provided.

    Advice to Management

Nanometrics is more of a "place to work". Not a place to have a career. Need to focus on bringing the people at the bottom up, and maintaining competitive wages, benefits, and perks.
