    Pros

The salary is well above assistant Professor level in the USA. The location of South East Asia leaves many interesting cultures very accessible. It's a good place for older professors to come as a visiting professor to pad their retirement. It is not good for a person trying to begin as Assistant Professor and expect promotion. There are a few lucky ones but there is no Rhyme or Reason as to who gets promoted. It is not due to the work achieved. No one knows what the standards are everything is kept unknown.

    Cons

The management is top down only. Even the Chair and Dean can do nothing. They only take orders from the Provost and President who are completely detached and have no idea what the specific school is about. At the faculty meetings a member of faculty is to say nothing, if they do they could get a letter from the chair telling them never to talk at a meeting again. But why bother speaking at a meeting? The faculty are only there to go through the actions, because they are to listen and follow through on new procedures only. They have no input. The university is extremely compartmentalized. The management does not have to give you a reason for anything. There is no mentorship of any kind. Professors go to their office and then to the classroom and goes home there is no social communication between professors. Singapore is artificial and very expensive. A glass of wine is 20-25 dollars. If your favorite places are "lovely Hotels" then is may be the city for you! The culture is hierarchal. They may go through the motions to have a "networking luncheon" between schools and when you arrive there is a buffet and a VIP buffet!

    Advice to Management

The management would have to have an over haul from top to bottom culturally. it is hierarchal with no communication between top management -faculty -students. they go through little charades of faux communications but it has no meaning. Real discussions are looked down upon. it is very frustrating to work at this institution. So many things need to change that there is no point in going over it here.
